I'm considering upgrading my XP OS to Windows 7. Anyone have any experience with this combination? I run both FS9 & FSX.

Re: Win 7 and FS9, 'X; Due to a crash I had to go to Win 7. For my unit...HP...there was only one problem loading and running both '7 and 'X. I added the SP's and still no probs with them. Win 7 does have an automatic feature that prompts you if it thinks that "other" settings would work better. And you can re-load whatever you were loading. The one problem is that I lost my F1 Meridian...but, they definitely state that it won't work in Vista. I had hoped that they would have come up with a fix but, no. There may be other flight items that won't work but, that's the only one that I know of. v/r qar02 PS. To Manfred...DC3 beta by Christmas... ?

I have been using Win 7 64 bit for 6 months now and like it much better than winxp both 32 and 64. I have had zero problems with fsx or it's addons, and I installed it to the default directory program files x86, did not and have not had a problem with either fs9 or fsx, using more ram than before and I have them running very smooth with good frames.

Installed FS9 under Win7 Starter, once, and had no problem. Contemplating the possibility to go over to 7 myself too in the next 6 months or so, right now.

I too had to recover from computer problems so an upgrade from XP to 7 was necessary. I like 7 better then XP. I had no problems with FS2004 and FSX by themselves. My problems were when I tried to install the second FS2004 as Golden Wings. There are no instructions for this and I had problems. I found out that I was doing too much changing and I have all three things running now. I installed all of mine under C, not in the default Program Files (x36) so there are no administrative problems.

Hi,
The only things I know about is that most people suggest that you install FS programs outside the Program Files folder (to minimize permission issues) and that you need to right click the white space in the remaining dialog box after adding scenery to the Scenery Library to actually add the layer.
Hope this helps,

I don't have System 7, so this is only my impression of what happens. When you try to add a scenery layer using System 7, apparently when you click OK in the Browse dialog box the dialog box doesn't go away. If you click the buttons again (or something else?) to make it go away you see that the layer wasn't really added. But if you right click on the white area of the dialog box instead, the box goes away and the layer will be added to the Scenery Library.
Hope this helps,

Let's see... when I try to add a scenery layer, I click on the " Add Area" button, and there it opens me a browse window for me to select a folder... the browse window has, on the lower side, a white field titled " Scenery area title", a field I personally have NEVER used nor ever understood the usefulness of, and below this the option to cache the scenery or not ( useful for those few... if there ever were someone... who use sceneries on CDs or DVDs), I'd guess. Are you telling me that in Win7, to make so a new scenery is actually accepted by FS, one has to give the finger to the " OK" button and right click on the white " Scenery area title" field instead? Weird.

Nice demonstration - I've bookmarked that one for the next post on this subject.

Ah... you were talking about FSX there? I remain a staunch FSX belittler, remember. Anyway... does FS9 suffer of the same ailment?

actually, for us ELDER folks it works out better, because we don't have to have as good an aim for the OK button!
