Hi all, On the Connie I would like to change the view looking forward out the cockpit window. (2D pannel) It appears to be slightly looking down instead of straight ahead. I have to switch to VC panel to see the end of the runway. Is this normal for a connie? Is this just a simple task of changing a few lines in the config file? If so, where should I look? Thx

You only rarely would need to change the view angle. More likely, the zoom may be incorrect. Which end of the runway are you trying to see? Are you flying FS9 or FSX? What is your current zoom level? What are the proportions of the monitor you are flying with?

Tom, I'm flying with FSX. Using 64 bit vista . I'm running on a 24" Samsung Lcd at 1920 X 1200. Not sure about the zoom. Whatever the default is. View is straight ahead as in takeoff position. Oh I have seen a couple of lines of config file that has something to do about eyepoint. Two lines are commented out. Guys I don't like to go tinkering with stuff without knowing what is going on. Good way to have to reload an airplane. But now that you ask about zoom I do have a strange glitch. When I change views from cockpit to outside, to chase plane, to control tower and then back again, the zoom factors stay as the should. But when I quit the flight and start a new one the chase plane view is too close to the rudder. The zoom factors change on the external views only. I have to get out of flight sim and start all over again. Mrcapitalism, I think those must be old links. They will not come up for me. Thx guys

The viewpoint lines in the aircraft CFG are for VC view position...the 2D panel view lines are in the panel CFG but it sounds to me you just need to raise the seat??
I forget the command off hand...Shift and enter??
Can't check atm

That's actually the wrong thing to do. Since you are flying FSX and on a widescreen monitor (0.6315 screen proportion), you need to change your zoom instead. 1. FSX requires 0.75 of the zoom in FS9. Thus if the panel says you should use a zoom of 1.0 in FS9, you need to use a zoom of 0.75. 2. A wide screen monitor causes the outside view zoom to increase (i.e. for a given zoom value, FS will cause the view to be magnified, the wider the monitor). So you also need to reduce the zoom value for this too. The value for #2 is dependent on the screen proportions you are using. A normal "square" monitor is 4:3, or a screen proportion of 0.75. The calculations: Your screen ratio / square monitor ratio * FSX ratio (if using FSX). So your zoom value should be: 0.6315 / 0.75 * 0.75 = 0.6315. So you should use a value around 0.60 (available from the keyboard). You can also change the line in the plane's panel.cfg file to: VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.63 And change the line in the aircraft.cfg file in the CalClassic planes that include the CalClassic VC View to: InitialZoom = 0.63 Which will make those views more accurate and persistent. I suggest using the CalClassic VC View instead of the standard VC view, since the standard view does not return to the proper view angle after looking away and then resetting the view using Ctrl-Spacebar. Note that the "widescreen" versions of the CalClassic 2D panels (when available) already change the 2D panel zoom values to 0.75 (for a 16:9 proportion monitor). These would need to be further changed by you to 0.63. Hope this helps,

PS. For those still using FS9, the desired zoom value using this monitor would be:
0.6315 / 0.75 = 0.842 (or use a zoom of 0.85 from the keyboard).
This would need to be entered in the panel.cfg file:
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.84
and the zoom set in the Views menu to 0.84 while in the VC. Then save a flight and use that to load the proper zoom again.
Hope this helps,

Weird, the links worked for me. (FireFox 4)
You can find the tutorials by clicking the 'tutorial' link on the main page.

Mrcapitalism, Well sir, I got the links to work. Must have been a bug when I tried them before. I must say WOW. Lots of stuff to take in there. Hope you guys don't get tired of questions from an old turkey. I have flown MSFS all the way back from the 80's on an 8088 computer. Boy have we come a long way. But I have never gotten into the "wonder if I could change this or that?" Now with the help of you guys I can learn some of the tricks of the trade. Thanks bunches

Hey guys, I just wanted to let ya know that the view is fixed now. I updated the files with the fde update. I haven't taken the time to look at the files but something in the update took care of the view problem. I can now see the end of the runway as I take off without having to switch to VC view.
