Hi everybody: last evening, I have modified the eyepoint of the Boeing 377 (to suit better with the 0.84 zoom for my wide screen). Result: unable to click something in the VC cockpit ! When returning to original values, all works fine again ! Like Tom says in his posts: hope this helps... (Excuse my English: I'm French) Cheers.

Hi,
This can happen if you move the eyepoint backwards, since you sink into the back of the pilot's chair or the back wall (depending on the aircraft). This causes you to lose the ability to click things. You can usually move the eyepoint in any other direction without problems, unless you run into another part of the physical VC.
Hope this helps,

Ok, Tom: thanks for the answer. This was absolutely unknowed by me.
Another thing: what is better to do: set the zoom 2D panel and VC panel 'by hand' with shift+ or shift- every time I create a new flight, or simply modify the zoom factor in the default flight ? Is the result identical ?
Cheers.

Is is some sort of range, i.e. you have to be close enough to click and you've move backwards out of range??

Hi,
The zoom in the 2D panel is set in the panel.cfg file, using this line in the Views section:
VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=1.000
The zoom in the VC is set by the default flight.
Note that the zoom factor is not a "preference" issue, but instead has only one correct value. That value for FS9 using a 4:3 monitor is 1.0. That value for a 16:9 monitor is 0.75. For default FSX those values are 0.75 and 0.56. Other screen proportions would have different zoom values.
All this changes in FSX, if this is set in the cfg file:
WideViewAspect=True
If so, then all screen proportions use a zoom of 1.0.
Hope this helps,

my screen is 1680x1050 and I'm under fs9. So I must set: view_forward_zoom=0.833 in the panel.cfg virtualzoom=000.75 in the .flt file of the KSEA default flight (under fs9/flights/other) Are these values correct ? Cheers. EDIT: I think I have understood . Corrects values are: view_forward_zoom=0.833 in the panel.cfg virtualzoom=000.833 in the .flt file of the KSEA default flight (under fs9/flights/other) Do you agree, Tom ? Cheers.

Hi,
crimar, you are correct: 0.833 in both places.
Garry, the reason is that if the path from your eye to the panel becomes obscured by an intervening polygon (even one pointing forward and thus not visible to you), you can no longer access the click points on the VC. So your eyepoint must be in "free air", and not within a structure like a seat back.
As for why MS decided to make FS work this way, I have no idea...
Hope this helps,

You're welcome. I normally don't actually change the default SeaTac flight. I load that flight, change the zoom, and then save it with a new name like Default Flight 0.833 Zoom. I use that as my default flight from then on. Hope this helps,
