Hi all!
Days ago, I was wondering why Washington Dulles was empty on my FS...then I realized the airport didn't open until late '62...so that's why it isn't active on the 1962 traffic.....
Then I had the idea to make a simple backdate; using the freeware scenery from Jim Campisi found at flightsim (dulles.zip)...it is made on the same way KSTL was backdated, making a separate folder with the exclusions and the new object files, in order to be placed on a layer above the original one...
Traffic.....well that's the tricky part ....since KIAD doesn't exist on the 1962 traffic file, to make it "live", I modified the 1962 traffic file by adding the airport and moving all the jet traffic from KBWI and some turboprops from KDCA...of course, it's not accurate at all but it's a good beginning.
Here’s some pics!

Sincerely, my spare time has reduced a little bit to continue with this airport….I don’t know if someone else is working already on a KIAD scenery, with a more detailed terminal…if Yes, please let us know!!!......in the meantime, I leave this work open to any person who likes to complete it….or maybe has more ideas to add some detail….I was thinking about the classic “mobile lounges” that operated on KIAD, but as I said….I don’t have enough time to continue with it.
People who would like to have this airport and give it a try ….you can email me at Juan DOT MartinezCastro AT acs-inc DOT com
Happy landings….!

Thanks, looks very nice.
Yes, a DCA scenery is sorely needed...

Thanks Tom....
I agree that this airport may be "too modern" for the actual era people fly here, I have noticed most calclassic members fly on 57/59 or before,
and well, KIAD itself was intended for solely jets since the beginning........

Well, there's another way to look at it. This KIAD, even if '63, is still a lot more "classic" than the default. Just sayin' .... I'd be cool with it.
Yes, if like with some packs where there is a '59 or so option, I'd always install the earlier period option - I just prefer the mystique of the older aiports, even if I'm saddling up to it in a 60s jetliner. But if 63 it must be, then I'll not complain. Looks great - happy with whatever you publish.
Cheers,
DL

I hope I won't be banned from this site if I admit that most of the time I fly with classic jets from the early 60s with the '61 AI-setup. And I guess (and hope) many other classic jet fans do the same. There is no other site that offers as many sceneries of a classic era (to the best of my knowledge), not to mention AI. Big thanks to Tom and the others for that. HJG in comparison offers nice jets, but no sceneries.
At the same time, when I fly classic props than I want the real thing: flying with pistons in an era where mostly all the AI is also piston with a '57 AI-setup.

I love all of the airplanes, props, turbo props, jets, in the 1950-1967 period. The 57-63 scenery range focus represents the heart of the crossover era. Dulles and a late '62 Honolulu would absolutely fit into the mix.

Both of those airports would be nice!
I'm sure not everybody knows why Tom and I chose to have a 1962 traffic file in the first place. It's because it was in mid-summer of 1962 that LAX's new jet age airport got into full service. At the time he had planned on just a 1959 traffic file, and scenery for California. I talked him into creating a 1962 version of LAX and a 1962 traffic file with early jets. I then suggested that it would be nice to have classic scenery for the states that surround California: Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona.
See how one thing leads to another? Just look at all the scenery and AI traffic and these wonderful scheduled flight plans that we now have. This whole scenery and AI has literally taken on a world all it's own. And now Central Europe is well in progress, looking like payware, highly detailed and thoroughly researched, and Eastern Europe has begun, and that will bring even more new AI. Hint: coming soon - an AI MD-12 airliner!
cheers, Mike

If anyone is doing Washington National I have a full set of charts from 1957-58 for that field if they would be of help. It seems from the charts that Bolling across the river may have been still operational at that time. It would make a nice addition to Washington National.

If anyone does want to do KIAD circa 1963, the main terminal was smaller in those days. The terminal pictured looks like the newer expanded terminal. I live around three miles from KIAD and I remember when it opened.

At around 2'15'' it shows the "old" terminal.
