First one looks like a minor incident (in the end) since they extinguished the fire with the onboard suppression system. Total loss probably on this one though. And this should have been on the return flight from their Carribean Trip. What a horrible way to end it.

Three days and three incidents involving DC-7's. This on the heels of the B-17G "Liberty Belle" catching fire in flight, landing in a field and then burning up. I don't know, but this could be fodder for the FAA in its quest to rid the skies of old aircraft.

It said minor damage. Lets all be optimistic and hope they'll repair old 836D in no time.

Thanks. Definitely rebuildable, although I doubt they will. Too bad, since that is an ex-UAL DC-6B: www.ruudleeuw.com/alcan06-kenai.htmOne of their other planes is ex an USAF C-118A.

The number 2 engine looks like it might be a spare parts source, don't know if number 3 is damaged, but there is a hole in the cowling. Any reason given for the wheels up landing?

The engines are probably shock loaded

This is likely going to be a case of money vs heart. Financially it likely will not make sense to rebuild but every one of these gals is precious ...even if they only have one tail The hole on #3 is likely from the prop tip missing on #4. That would have certainly added a bit of damage to the internal damage that is likely when you stop the engine by knocking the blades onto the Tarmac. At bare minimum each engine will have to be completely torn down and evaluated. Lots of work and lots of dollars. And then there is the whole rest of the plane. I do hope the heart wins over the money. Cheers Stefan

Maybe it can be a vital source of equipment and other undamaged bits to get another one airworthy. This happens a few times with Bristol Freighters that crashed so they used the parts to get the spares ship back in the air. They might even be able to get more than one airworthy, so perhaps not all bad news. ;D Looks like he got it down level and smooth as the wings don't seem to have touched. Just imagine if there were two potentially flyable, one need a left wing and the other need a right wing ....I can dream
