Hey guys, i finaly was able to install the Super Connie again and also got to play with the new flight dynamics. However something struck me. At full throttle the needle now pushes well on the max (60) and i need to throttle quite a bit back to stay within the limits. And as a resut, the takeoff run was waaaaay longer then what it used to be. (feels more real though) Is this normal and good. Or is there a mixup in the G and H models (i did install it right acording to the read me). Also the exhaust flames are gone, and the supercharger of engine 2 and 3 is no longer able to be turned off. Is all this normal, or is something wrong? I would love to hear some feedback on this.
(ps, great to have flown her again. Been too long since last)
Yours, Coenraad

All of that sounds very wrong to me. Looks like a reinstall of the planes is in order.

The Supercharger levers were indeed changed in the latest FDE update. They were unfortunately not accurate to begin with. Only the outboard levers have a DISCONNECTED position in the real airplane. But that is the cabin superchargers and not the ones providing additional boost to the engine. Since the cabin pressurization is not modeled at all this does not really affect anything...only a matter of getting things as close as possible as we can make it.
There were a few additional changes how the engines behave such as a modeling of added MAP via ram air pressure at speed. But that should not affect the max available MAP on the ground. At the same time as long as you have the proper TO power settings indicated on the gauges performance should be roughly the same as before.

That I remember, the superchargers of the R-3350 didn't have a wastegate or another whatever system of top pressure control, so the need to pay attention giving power to take off is only an added bonus under the point of view of realism, and personally I've not found the take off run to vary from before, giving the correct max MAP ( 56.50 in the 3250 hp DA3, 58.50 in the 3400hp EA3), the performances seem unchanged to me...

Hmm, might be my own imagination then. But it feels a bit slower and heavier, i canot climb like i used to it seems and now on takeoff i really need to keep her down and wait a little while untill i can pull up the flaps. Feels quite real to me, but way different from as i remember how it was a few months ago when i flew last time. If i remember right i normaly had around 1000ft/m at lower levels at normal climb power, but now it is only around 700-750 ft/m heavely depending on Cowlflaps. They have a reall extreme influence on the speed now. Btw anyone knows why the exhaust flames might not show? Is there anything i need to edit in the cfg files, or is the effect removed for daytime now? (haven't flewn at night yet).

Coenraad,
Exhaust flames. I think you're an FSX user so I can only be of limited help but if you can't see the flames in spot view then start by checking the following. There's no difference night/day but they have been made more realistic by being less visible in bright light.
1. The aircraft.cfg [lights] section should include the following lines,
light.5 = 7, 11.250, -13.8, -2.05, fx_1049_exh_small // 2 light.6 = 8, 11.250, 13.8, -2.05,fx_1049_exh_small // 3 light.7 = 2, 9.750, -29.90, 0.100,fx_1049_exh_small // 1 light.8 = 9, 9.750, 29.90, 0.100,fx_1049_exh_small // 4
2. Your main "Effects" folder must contain,
"fx_1049_exh_small.fx".
3. The "texture" folder within the "Effects" folder must include,
fx_749_2SBR.bmp fx_749_2SBL.bmp
All of this was in Volker's update. It works fine for me.

I'll check it again once i get some time, but i think i am missing the "fx_1049_exh_small.fx" file. Thanks for the help guys.

I found out why the MAP maxed out at 91% throttle at 60Map. I found these lines in the read me file.
max_design_mp=66.8 // turbocompound chargers and 145 hi-octane fuel, use for added realims in power settings //max_design_mp=56.5 // use for easier full throttle TOP up to critical altitude

Okey another weird thing. Today i thought i test the new crossfeed system. So i loaded fuel into only the tiptanks. But for some reason the engines kept running, no fuel was consumed from the tip tanks and the FSX shift+z indicated a steady 16% fuel over a 30nm trip. I also checked the gauges, and nothing was used. Is there something i need to enable in the read me?

Hi,
Make sure in Aircraft/Realism you don't have the "never runs out of fuel" box checked (or unchecked, depending on what it says).
Hope this helps,

Running from only the tip tanks works OK for me in FS9 although I can't see why anyone would want to try that anyway. Like any computer model, it's programmed to do as best possible what the real thing would do. The real aircraft would never be run only on tip tanks. In fact fuel distribution has to be very carefully managed. If the crossfeed works as the manual says it should then I would be happy with just that. Bill

Ok, Tom i feel allmost to embarrased to say so, but that was indeed the case. I had so many reinstalls of my system that i had forgotten to change this, as i normaly allways fly online and therefore have the realism settings of that server (max). So when i testet this offline the settings where as arcade as possible and no fuel usage enabled.. god i feel stupid.
Must say now that it all works it feels like a very nice update. She feels allot more smooth. Will be nice to fly her on a trip again this weekend when i finaly have some free again. Only to bad my pc still is not fixed so a reinstall is allmost certain to happen again.
These products are really getting better and better with each patch.
Thanks for a nother great update on a great plane.
