I have downloaded Golden Wings, updates 1 and 2. I have also found reference to a update 3 but unable to find it. Am I trying to find something that does't exist?

Harold, that is GW3. It consists of the main page followed by update 1 and update 2 for a total of three files. The title is a bit deceiving, but that is actually what you are looking for. If you read the info data at the top of the page it will more or less outline what GW3 consists of. You can still find GW1 and 2 on flightsim.com, but they are more or less for FS98 and FS2000. GW3 was designed for FS9.

Hi Harold,
I don't think that there is an update 3 file.
Best regards, Volker

Hi, As far as I know, and I have a Golden Wings 3 installation also, the files are: GoldenWings.zip GWUP1.zip GWUP2.zip Optional: Golden Hawaii (cc8ghf.zip) ..as of early 2008. To find out for sure, ask Tom Contantine at mainescenery.proboards.com/index.cgi? (...and the website for The Old Hangar: www.theoldhangar.net/toh_downloads.html. That's where you can get all of the Bill and Lynn Lyons releases that are still available. This is what's left of the group and site that Bill and Lynn built....but it's still growing and going strong. ;D Yours, P.S. Just in case, you do know that Golden Wings 3 takes the FS9 world back to the the early years of aviation, right? ...like 1910-1920. If you're looking for a package that won't interfere with addon airports and taxiways ..(typically grass and dirt in Golden Wings3 ..everywhere!) then Silver Wings might be the better option. It won't conflict with any CalCassic scenery (..for example). Both are intended for low altitude flying, with beautiful trees, barns water towers and older style houses and farms in autogen. (Intended as an F.Y.I. for everyone else. ) Edit: Forum and Download page links (above) for The Old Hangar have been updated as of 04/19/2010

Well that solves my problem quite nicely. Im guessing that it only covers the U.S. but i'll find out very shortly because i've downloaded everything and once I get back home again Im going to start installing. Had a horse shoe turnament this morning, dinner at the rec. hall, going to get our dog his license and then the day should be just about over. lol

Golden Hawaii (cc8ghf.zip) ....Silver Wings might be the better option. It won't conflict with any CalCassic scenery (..for example). Both are intended for low altitude flying, with beautiful trees, barns water towers and older style houses and farms in autogen. (Intended as an F.Y.I. for everyone else. ) Before my PC crashed over Christmas I had a regular, a Golden Wings and a Silver Wings installation. Now I am recovering I have only one (I'll get back to the others eventually) based on Silver Wings and Cal Classics. The focus is very USA-centric, but that's no complaint - with FS you get a starting point and where it goes from there depends on the community. It seems to remove some modern airports and convert them to farmland or housing. Residential suburbs look like someone has remapped them with a lot of little roads around small square blocks with little houses - rather atmospheric. It really shines in the area of its replacement textures, which tend to look richer but blend smoothly. Golden Hawaii - it's a nice pre-WW2 package (cc8ghf.zip at AVSIM). However, I am using Derek & Brendan Webbs Ford Island (dbwsimpearlhbr2004.zip) and other Hawaiian tweaks for my vaguely sixties setup. Golden Hawaii was designed for users with a basically modern FS setup to be able to "switch on" the retro version, fly it, then switch back to present day. The Old Hangar Forum has some important instructions if you prefer to leave Golden Hawaii permanently "on", e.g. in a Golden Wings FS setup.

Hi,
John, the Silver Wings doesn't actually replace or move any airports. The whole point was to backdate the size of cities and towns using autogen replacement ground textures to take out the modern "business districts", modern commericial structures and modern suburbs with farmland and suburbs back in the days when one house sat on a half-acre. Bill also put in the cloud and weather textures he made that are FAR better than default with little to no impact on framerates (that I can tell).
The "switch" utility for Golden Hawaii was built for FS2002, and once Windows XP came out, people starting having problems with it, so it's recommeded that it not be used.
Yours,

As a volunteer I repair or should I say reinstall operating systems on donated computers, otherwords get them ready for sale for a local charity welfare place here in town. Lately I have spent a lot of time doing that instead of enjoying my flight simmin hobby so I havent got around to installing Golden Wings. My main concern is that I dont mess with the default FS9. I want to be able to switch back and forth between GW's and FS9. I printed out the instructions yesterday and I think I fall under the category of "Method B". Hopefully I can get to it this weekend. If anyone has any suggestions I would will surely appreciate them.

I just have a separate sim for Classics , as well as Golden Wings. There are a number of ways to add extra sims. I have 4 different versions with separate traffic and aircraft on a VISTA system, and they all work fine. I go from Golden Wings to Classic 50's to modern by choosing which version I choose.

Hi, Remember I have a Classic FS DLL file that will help create a separate "personality" for your 50's/60's classic era install. It works just like the one for GW3. www.calclassic.com/files/Classic_dll.zipHope this helps,

Yours, Randy, thanks for clearing up my memory. I wrote from work so had to rely on memory, and now don't have my various other installations anyway, but I think now Golden Wings did remove some fairly obvious modern airports that weren't even built pre-WW2, while, as you say, Silver Wings uses the great base texture changes but leaves the rest alone. And the replacement textures are really superb. The Golden Wings/Silver Wings series pushed the outside of the envelope right back from when I recall GW for FS98.
