Hi, The idea behind Golden Wings is to return your world to around World War I or before. Silver Wings was made for the idea of backdating to pre World War II. ...or shortly after...before farmers moved to town and subdivisions turned "square". Golden Wings presents problems when using add-on sceneries as it returns most airports to dirt or grass runways and taxiways when installed by the book. Silver Wings doesn't present this problem. Both are poor performers when flying high and fast. They were intended for low and slow "I Follow Roads" styles. You lose performance and frames if you never take the time to enjoy the textures or use them for navigation. I only posted this as a clarification and recommendation for those that might be considering one of these packages that isn't already familiar with them and/or their differences. Support for them may still be found at mainescenery.proboards.com/index.cgi?Yours,

using silver wings for daily 1-hour flights. no probs w/ propliner performance ~225-260 kts. This GW texture mix looks promising in the screenies. good approach to the period look.
need recipe.

Still a bit puzzled..
Does both of the packages remove the bigger cities? or just the rural areas? can you explain the difference between default FS9 and this? And I like to have to remove the non existing airports..

Hi Johan, The heart of the backdating in Silver Wings is that it replaces the default modern autogen "business districts" with a more rural appearance. It brings back far more trees and covers what would be industry and business park autogen with this: (My computer is an old P4, so many of the objects downtown that should be in view haven't loaded yet.) Now from an Airbus at FL600 it would look pretty bad, as it's a very obvious cover up from very high altitudes: This effects autogen only, not specific scenery for the area. This is Houston, Texas at Houston Hobby (KHOU) Above, you can still see the Astrodome (left), the Transco Tower (just right of the dome), and the downtown area aren't affected. Bill didn't change the default zones of autogen, only renamed and a specific zone to display different objects...giving it a much more rural feel. The water towers of the 40s-60s are also depicted beautifully. In the case of Houston, this rezoning is pretty accurate. Residential lots used to be about 1 to 1/2 acre. Now, they're about 1/8th. Also, landclass objects like roads, rivers, railroads, bridges etc, remain unchanged. Does this answer the question? I guess the best thing to do is go ahead and download the package and read the documentation. Bill explains it far more thoroughly and in detail. Golden Wings 3 is COMPLETELY different. It reverts the world, but mainly the US, back to about 1910 ...focusing on the earliest periods of aviation. When runways and airfields were grass or dirt, there were no large terminals and the most modern airliner was a Ford Tri-Motor. Specific cities in aviation history are the primary focus, to give them a more "turn of the century" feel. GW3 also includes a world buffer terrain mesh, landclass and scenery objects specific to that package, so roads, rivers etc, are changed. The Interstate highway system, for example, is reverted to a 2 lane road that is not lit. ....so addon scenery from our era often won't work. You won't have pavement at airports elevations may be wrong, textures that are assumed to be present by the designer may not be there, etc. Golden Wings was meant for Zeppelins, Tri-Motors, bi-planes, etc. In summary, Silver Wings won't conflict our era. Golden Wings 3 will. Golden Wings wasn't designed for use with scenery that wasn't designed with Golden Wings in mind. In my opinion, it as a work of art! Mine is currently corrupted (corruption due to changing to XP and probably a registry error not related to Golden Wings) , so sorry for no screenshots, but I keep it as a standalone, with no additions other than scenery designed for it. I'd recommend talking to Tom Constantine or the others at the The Old Hangar for more info. They can help you out if you need more info. Bill Lyon's "The Old Hangar" website is gone, but it's being kept alive here: www.theoldhangar.net/toh_downloads.html...and the forum is here: mainescenery.proboards.com/index.cgiYours,

YES INDEED!!
It looks much more like the era, altough the textures are not as sharp as with GE Pro, but nevertheless, give much more feel of the era.. off to explore now! Will post some shots later.
