Guys --
Back on the old forum, I started asking if it was difficult to have multiple installations of FS2004. I thought might like to have installations for: classic props and propliners; modern jets; military.
We didn't get too far into the discussion when we started getting hacked to death. I'd like to ask the following:
1. If you have multiple setups, what are they? 2. How did you do it? was it very difficult to do?
Thanks in advance, as always for all the help!

Also, I should have asked asked if the same answers could apply to FS2002.
Thanks again!

Marc, I am currently running three FS9 installations. One with Golden Wings 3 for pre 1945 flying, one with Silver Wings with all the Classics for use between 1946-67 (about) and a seldom used modern installation with some contemporary addon scenery, bush planes, water-bombers and my DHC Dash-8 collection. My methods were: Install FS9, patch to 9.1, install FSGW3 renaming main folder and executable to FSGW3. Install FS9 (again, because of the name changes to the original folder and executable there is no issue with overwriting any FSGW3 files), patch to 9.1, install Silver Wings including the FSLanguage.dll available here: www.theoldhangar.com/toh_downloads.htmlRename folder and executable FS Silver Wings: Install FS9 (Last time) patch to 9.1 and blah, blah, blah. Each seperate installation has it's own unique .cfg file, desktop icon, splash screen and folders for saves, flightplans logbooks, etc. Obviously this is only one method and of course all addons and accessories are a personal choice. As for difficulty, if I can do it it's gotta be a cinch and there's a lot of smart people around here to help you with any problems. Good Luck. Chris

Hi, I think Chris covered most of it. I believe that it all applies to FS2002 as well (except for the language DLL that is for FS2004 only). BTW, I don't think you need to actually install Silver Wings to be able to use the language.dll file. It just basically renames FS into Silver Wings. It should work with any installation of FS. And it appears I could probably make one called something like Classic Flight Sim if anyone really cares.

Chris --
THANKS! You must have your setups along the lines of which I am thinking. Just a couple of questions:
Where does one get the FS9.1 patch?
In the AVSIM.com download section, the Silver Wings download says something to the effect, "not recommended for flyers of heavy iron." Yet, those are the planes I want to use in that timeframe. Why the negative recommendation?

Hi, The Silver Wings ground textures look best if you are flying low and slow. If you are going to fly high and fast they are not recommended (although many people still like them). I have my Classic FS language.dll file ready if anyone wants to try it. Backup your original first! www.calclassic.com/files/Classic_dll.zipNote that both of these files will convert your FS into a US English version (mostly) if you are using a different language version. However, I found out that it is quite easy to specify a new folders for your flights, using a program called Res Hacker. I can tell you how to do that if you are using a different language. Hope this helps,

Don't forget Do not delete the default Cessna's otherwise the sim won't work.

Chris -- In the AVSIM.com download section, the Silver Wings download says something to the effect, "not recommended for flyers of heavy iron." Yet, those are the planes I want to use in that timeframe. Why the negative recommendation? MARC I like Silver Wings (FSSW) for the Classic era (post-WW2 through mid-sixties in my books). The urban sprawls are a bit smaller and the world seems a bit greener. Some of the default buildings appear quainter somehow and look to crowd some airport' boundries but I do not consider that to be significant. Using the HJG early jets I have had no issues flying in the FSSW universe and all Tom's scenery and retro airports look excellent or good enough for my tastes at any rate. I would also suggest disabling (or deleting) the photo-real cityscapes for Golden Wings or FSSW but you will find that the installation instructions in FSGW are excellent and won't steer you wrong. I applied similar methods to FSSW and installation was problem free. Simondix' point on not deleting the default Cessna is a good one, I created a seperate folder in each installation (named Spare_Hanger) where I move all unwanted aircraft rather than completely deleting them, an advantage of having more H-D capacity then I am ever likely to need. @ simondix,
My sim works and I don't have any of the default aircraft, someone else told me a similar thing, what is the reason, I had multiple installs on my old PC and did the same and they worked?

Many addon aircraft are aliased to the Cessna panel and sounds. They will appear without panels and sounds without the plane there. In FSX they will not appear at all.
Also, if you have a problem with your default Flight and it tries to load its own default flight it will fail and FS will crash.
Hope this helps,

Ah! I use my Cal Classic version for AI only, I'm not all that keen on flying, I like spotting, may be that's why it worked.
