G'Day All
This whole Invader thing started for me when I was thinking of a quick around the world dash for a change of pace. Jesse's mention of the Reynolds flight reminded me of something I had seen years ago in "The Boy's Big Book of Everything" or some such title, detailing the event. The A-26 was named "Reynolds Bombshell" and as Jesse said, piloted by Bill Odum. The engineer was one T.Carrol Salee and Reynolds himself listed as "Navigator". The flight time was 73hours 5 minutes and the route taken was New York Gander Paris Cairo Karachi Calcutta Shanghi Tokio Adak Island Edmonton New York The flight easily broke Howard Hugh's record, but as no one remembered to tell the FAI beforehand, it didn't count. Anyone want to do a 63rd anniversary flight?.

G'Day All
For Any one interested in Executive conversions of the Invader, "Warbirds International" magazine for March/April 2010 has an excellent article on the Rhodes-Berry "Silver Sixty", a modified A-26 featuring a pressurised 22 ft.cabin with 6ft.6in. headroom for 14 passengers. This was achived by deepening the bottom of the fuselage to allow the passengers to sit below the level of the rear spar, avoiding the cramped cabin of other Invader conversions. The "Before Warbirds" section of the mag. has some great colour shots of ex military A-26s, any surviving examples unfortunatly seem to have been converted back to millitary specs. Those aircraft built by On Mark Engineering, (Marksman and Marketeer etc.) were dealt with in the July/August issue. Check them out.
