HI all I've been gone for sometime, since I got hit by the McAfee Bug.Even though I was running win.Vista32.It got me. ruined everything. I was told to format to XP-SP3; I had this done by a technician where I bought the computer three years ago. That crashed after two weeks. Then I was given a win7 disc and told to install by pressing F12 and letting it install. All that went very well and I got myself a win7 32 OS. Went on to Install FSX std,SP's,Addons and all that and it is all working well, once I figure out the intricacies of win7. I have so far managed nearly everything. BUT! I'm being told to uninstall and make a folder in my C:...Call it FSX or whatever and redirect the installer there; Instead of program files.I'm a bit reluctant since I have only encountered minor issues...related mainly to sounds. In my new install of the L1649A I don't have the seat belt and No smoking ding/or dongs as I did before. Is there any way to fix this in an easy way? Please help.I checked the FSX SOUND Folder and the SP_L1649A Folder and the .wavs aren't in there? The SP_L1649A folder is present in my FSX sound folder. Here I can find the sound wav bing. But I do not have a folder SP_1649A new folder? Thanks in advance:
Bernardo

Hi Bernardo,
sorry to hear you fell prey to a virus, same happened to me.
Yes, you need an integral subfolder SP_1649A in your "Flight Simulator X\Sound" folder. You find SP_1649A under [sound] at the root level of the upload zip.

Thanks Manfred, No! I didn't fall prey to a virus. It was McAfee that sent out an update to theire virus definitions: DAT 5859; That ruined millions of XP computers around the world. Even though I was running Vista, it took me quite a while to convince them that I had been hit as well, ( Otherwise why would I be calling theire support with this complaint. I have better thigs to do!) I just checked I have the SP_1649A folder present in my FSX sound folder. When I click on the cabin .wav second rom the top in the _SP_1649A folder it dings! But not when I load the L-1649A in my installation in win7?

Some people run into permission problems with FS in the Program Files folder. But if you aren't having real problems with it in its current location there is no need to move it.
Hope this helps,

Hello Tom: Thanks for your reply. I installed my new FSX accel. by default into program files...I'm being adviced to uninstall and reinstall into my C: By creating a new (FSX) folder there... I've been working with this installation for somedays now...I can't say I'm completely satisfied My L1649 A doesn't have the saftey sounds, even thought I have copied the SP_L1649A Folder to the sound folder. As it is in the "G"...They sound there. In order to avoid permissions and all that like in my previous Vista install,( Before the Mcafee bug hit me) I have UAC turned all the way the way down in this win7 Installation it's also the only way I can get to edit my notepad folders; I just find it strange that the ding and dongs work in the G version and not in the L-1649A. The folders are identical?...I have a folder in the sound folder SP_L1649A; The second WAV sound file is the cabin sound. When iclick on this I can hear the ding I'm perplexed? It works in the G version?

These two switches are coded in Manfred's Gmax model....so unfortunately they are not easily swapped out against something else to test. Since all of the Connies use the same sounds and they work for you on the 1049 they should work on the 1649a as well....unless somehow the system itself blocks access to them .... why I don't know.
At this point I would probably go along with the theory that the location of the files is causing the trouble. I don't know if this would even work but I would try to simply move the FSX folder to the C:\ root.
Right click and hold and then drag folder from it's present location......and select MOVE. BUT if it doesn't work you might have to start all over.....

Stefan: Thanks for your reply. I've tried everything I know? Before my mishap with the McAfee bug everything worked. I've had to formatt to winXP SP3...And then to win7,where everything seems to work fine. I had problems with my 727 captain FSX sounds too. but this model has been under developement since it was put out for purchase. Finally I mamnaged otget all the sound working there. I am being adviced by a member in captainsim forum to reinstall everything to my C: insteaqd of letting FSX Gold install by default into program \files. It is strange that the sounds work in the 1049's but not in the 1649's; As you say they use the same sound,As I describe in my first post. Your suggestion of moving the whole FSX folder to the C: might work. but with no garantees. and the risk of starting all over...I'll have to think about it a few hours...After all the hours I have invested in this installation I'd hate to have to start all over Stefan I did it...I did as you intructed...And then I run FS_Registry_repair toll from flight 1...All is well. I went on to try my L-1649A...No safety sounds? Though? This is what my sound folder looks like ( sorry about the size): Thanks: Bernardo

Hi Stefan: Did as you adviced, thank you, and moved FSX Gold Accel. to my C: Then run FS_Registry_repair Tool by F1 and all works fine! It makes it easier to move folder and files and install addons and scenery. :'(Except the safety sounds in the L1649A? This is weird... ...I've just copied the sound and folder as they are in my L1049 G and 749,where the safeties sound. To the L1649A... They still refuse to sound here. All I hear is the click of the bottoms. Not the ding- dongs?

Ok i think I see where your problem is now....at least in part.
The SP_L1649A folder does not belong into the airplane specific sound folder but rather in the general FS sound folder.
Now that you moved the FSX install to c:\FSX that should be C:\FSX\SOUND
The location that you have should not work. It also should not work for the other Connies either.

Stefan: Thanks for your reply. I have SP_L1649A folder in my C: Flight SimulatorX\ Sound folder. It works for the other connies though?
Manfred just to report. I got an e-mail from mcAfee last night where they don't recognize my claim for reimbursment, saying that I never adviced them of my new e-mail address...Although I have many mails form them which have come to this new e-mail address? I'm outraged at them for missguiding me. Sorry Tom but I'd like to share this with other members and warn them against McAfee in future...

Thanks Bernardo.
What Stefan meant was that according to your folder screenshot both SP_L1649A and squeaking brakes are part of this aircraft's local sound folder. They shoudn't be. They should be in Flight Simulator X\Sound. Compare with one of the Super Connies that work OK on your setup. As a matter of fact why don't you delete all files from the Starliner's Sound folder and create a single sound.cfg containing an alias line pointing to the Super Connie. Know what I mean?

Manfred: Thanks for you reply. I have the SP_L1649A folder in my FSX sound folder, together with the Squeking Brakes. As for the comparisson with the sound folders that work in the other Connies...Theire sound folder looks exactly as the one above, containing the .wav files and the two folders. " As a matter of fact why don't you delete all files from the Starliner's Sound folder and create a single sound.cfg containing an alias line pointing to the Super Connie. Know what I mean?" I am afraid I don't Manfred Thanks: Bernardo

Right - open Notepad, copy/paste the two lines listed below, save as sound.cfg and drop in your Starliner\Sound folder (after having deleted the lot there).
This is assuming that you have the 'G' installed, with the sound pack that is working for you. If your sound pack is somewhere else change the reference accordingly.
What you are doing is in effect telling FSX, Hey, for the sounds go to this other folder and use what's in there.
The two lines are these:
[fltsim] alias=Lockheed_L1049G\Sound
Hope it'll work...

Thanks for the advice Manfred but didn't work; Strangely? I does make sense of course. I did as you suggest emptied the lot and created a notepad folder with the alias=...Lines I copied form your post. At first I got no sound because I removed the whole lot and only left the .cfg file...Then I moved in the sound folder, where I changed the .cfg with the one I created with the alias=... and put in the SP_L1649A folder back in the plane folder...Although it is also present in the FSX\Sound folder. I loaded the sim and the L1649A loaded v/c went for the safety switches... all I hear is the click...No bing? All I have now in the L1649A sound folder is the sound .cfg
On another note...I got an e-mail form McAfee telling me they refused my reimbursement for repairs of my computer...After I had been grated it...They excuse themselves creating a confusion that my e-mail wasn't registered at the time the reimbursemment were sentout for application..Although I have a copy of my application...Where it clearly says I have succesfully applied. This is Highway Robbery! They changed the dates of my e-mails to them to make me look like I applied too late. To whomever is considering buying or using McAfee...Please heed my warnings...Consider seriously another antivirus.

The whole thing does make less and less sense I am afraid.
What Manfred described should have worked at least to the point where you get the same engine sounds as with the other Connie.
You do not need anything but the cfg file in the aircraft specific sound folder.
The airplane the alias points to of course needs to have more than just a cfg file. But it still does not need that SP_L1649A folder. None of them do. That folder is only required in one location....the main FSX\sound folder.
I really can't figure out what is going on with your setup.
Let's try something different.
1. Rename the panel and sound folder in your L-1649A to panel_org and sound_org. 2. Copy the panel and sound folder from the L-1049G (or any other Connie that works completely) into the L1649A without making any other changes to it.
Start the Sim and select the L-1649A. Since the panel.cfg is not really the correct one the view points and such will be wrong but you should be able to test the sounds....if it works that way we'll continue from there.
