Got a very nice site from Bruce Smythe this afternoon. Not actually Prop Liner related but a nice site for aircraft. www.classicfighters.co.nz/Jesse

Hello Jesse - I had high hopes of getting across the ditch to Omaka this year, but it's looking pretty unlikely now...so I will try for Wanaka next year. The two shows alternate, year-by-year. www.warbirdsoverwanaka.com/ATB MikeW

Thanks for that link, Mike. I guess all the heavy flooding will prevent a lot of folks from getting to the air shows. We can hope for better wx for 2012.

Cheers, Jesse - The flooding has stopped lots of things. There has not been a train through my town since Jan 10 and there won't be for some months yet. Normally there are about 12-14 trains per day, mainly coal, grain and cattle to Brisbane plus the Westlander, and of course the corresponding return workings. If you look here: www.queenslandrail.com.au/RailServices/Traveltrain/Pages/TheWestlander.aspxyou can see the run of the line (about halfway across the state). Then follow the Flood Recovery link and you will find a link for Flood Recovery Photos. West of here you have Grantham, Murphy's Ck, Spring Bluff and then Toowoomba - that's about 50 miles of rail from here, and the whole western line is about 500 miles long with about 470 miles damaged to a greater or lesser extent. The only alternative is road, principally the Warrego Hwy, but much of that is seriously damaged, and the critical section up and down the escarpment to Toowoomba (aka Toowoomba Range) has only one lane open up and down, instead of two, because of landslips and pavement damage...and it was already very busy with trucks carrying important stuff like beer and food We will get through it, but it won't be next week. Thanks, Simon. We didn't even get the fringe of it. However the cyclone season isn't over and we can expect 3 or 4 more. Sometimes they do get quite far south, especially once they are inland. That is a big concern, since the Murray-Darling catchment is now saturated and a tropical rain depression in the headwaters is the last thing we want. There have already been three floods in the past few months, in the central and western parts of the state. ATB MikeW
