Hi, Well, for my summer project I've decided to improve the scenery that started it all - the California 1959/62 package. The first airport to be improved is Burbank (then Lockheed Air Terminal). Here is the terminal, with the Lockheed headquarters and parts factory behind it: Here is the rest of the Lockheed factory, with the large final assembly building in the middle. The Braniff Electra was the last Electra delivered, in 1962. The Pacific Airmotive hangar with a CV-580 in GM corporate livery is at the hangar on the left, and an FAA example is at the far left. The conversions were done here and at Santa Monica. By 1962 GM and the FAA had CV-580's being tested and delivered. The Flying Tiger and Slick hangars are next. Those are the Mercer hangars in the background. And night owls have not been ignored - here is the Pacific Airmotive office and Lockheed assembly building at night: And finally the airport entrance sign with the Lockheed headquarters in the background: Many more airports still to do - will hopefully be ready sometime this fall.

Looks great Tom. Looking forward to flying in and out of them. Long Beach and LAX are the ones I've used so far in the L.A. area. Thank you in advance. Ed

That is most definitely worth a major 'woot!' ^_^ Especially the addition of the Lockheed plant - I recently purchased myself a copy of volume 5 of the AirlinerTech series on the Lockheed Electra, which includes pictures of that iconic Building 309. ^^
Guess we'll be seeing a flurry of 188's there in '59...? ;p

Thanks. That Electra book is where I got the images for building 309 (the one that says LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION, which was the final assembly building). Here's a pic using the 1959 traffic: And here is 1957: Thanks again,

Hi again, One final thing - the military area of the Lockheed plant. The Neptunes will be included in the next AI Traffic update: Enjoy,

I do like those Neptunes, very very nice to see them. How often do they fly?
When was the Orion program, and where they built there at Burbank?

Hi, Each one flies twice every 8 hours, with an aircraft departing about every half hour. They just do test flights around Burbank. The Orion program started around 1958 or so, and they were built in the main assembly building (building 309), I assume. The first squadron deliveries were made in September 1962 (my traffic is June 1962, and Burbank is being built as it was in 1960 or so). The last Neptunes were delivered in 1962. Perhaps I should add a couple of Orions for 1962... Hope this helps,
