YPCC Cocos Field Cocos Is Australia Works ok, objects ok, tarmac area is sandy colour and runway but otherwise is fine.
YPXM Christmas Is Christmas Is Australia Works ok, minimal objects, slight overlay issues with surrounding are but satisfactory.
I am just working my way through the list only China left to do in this amazing package of airports from this area. I continue to be surprised how many work straight up with no issues at all. There is no criticism involved in this given the fact that these were all done for a different sim format (MS2004) most of the important or key airport scenery's are just fine and one or two need a little work. The only ones I have to discard ( I am deleting them from the folder as I go but I have a backup just in case some enterprising individual fixes them) as unusable are generally minor places that may be of interest to some, but are anyway covered by either default FSX airports or more recent scenery packages built for FSX. The scenery that has serious alignment or mesh issues are in my humble view not possible to fix for FSX but it would be easier to redo them completely.

Hi, Inspired by this thread I tried to "upgrade" some airfields from the central europe 61 set to FSX. But for some reason without the result I hoped for and I spend two nights trying. What I did was create an exclude polyfon and then added an airport background polygon. But on one airfield (EHLW)the flatten doesn't work (shimmering between runway and background polygon) and on the other airfield (EHGG)I can't suppress the default buildings. Did I choose the "wrong" airfields to start with or did I do something wrong in ADE?(version 1.7) Regards, Jan

Hi, Why are you editing EHLW? It appears to display just fine for me in FSX without editing. I always say leave well enough alone. For EHGG, you need one addition to my tutorial. The default buildings placed at this airport are not autogen (which are removed by placing the airport polygon), but instead are a mixture of generic buildings and library objects placed one by one. The FS2004 version of the airport did not need to exclude any buildings in that area, so there are no exclude rectangles there. Therefore, you need to create them. For that you need to create exclusion polygons (the ADE button with the yellow square on it). You drag from the upper left to the lower right to create these polygons. A box will pop up suggesting that you exclude ALL. In this case ALL will be fine. For your information, only this choice will remove any autogen that *happens* to be there. In other situations you can change this if you wish by unchecking ALL and checking Generic Buildings and Library Objects if you want to avoid excluding things like taxi signs (does not apply here). Since these exclude polygons must be created NSEW, you may need more than one to create the properly shaped exclude area. In this case I created three of them: This removed all of the FSX buildings from the area. BTW, when not working with the excludes I use the View menu and uncheck Exclusions so they are not visible (and don't get in my way). Hope this helps,

Tom,
Thanks for the quick reply. I will add those exclude rectangles. You are right about EHLW (Leeuwarden) but when I encountered the problems with EHGG I thought that trying another airfield might make clear what I did wrong with EHGG. But as so often not every change is an improvement.
Thanks again and regards,
Jan

Well, I continue to be surprised and amazed at how much of this great scenery work originally intended for MS2004 works and works just fine for me in FSX. So at this point I would like to acknowledge the great work done by everybody over time to put these airports and scenery together. From my perspective it has completely rejuvenated my flight simulation experience because I had sat back for a long time thinking well I have all these great aeroplanes from this period, yet scenery wise I am stuck in the future or the present with FSX. I feel like a kid in lolly shop. Fantastic so far. Very few disappointments at all. So a very big thank you to everybody here at Cal Classic. I am now working through the California Package. So if nobody objects I will continue to post the results as I work through this package as well. Qantas Long Nose Constellation San Franciso (1962 Scenery)

Hi,
Glad you're enjoying them.
A little background. MS originally promised that FS2004 scenery would be compatible with FSX, so we went through the painful process of learning the FS2004 scenery tools, etc. (we had been using FS2000 tools, which display fine in FS9). Then at the last minute they decided to use a spherical world model and changed the terrain polygon/lines system, and didn't keep the FS9 systems so they became less than 100% compatible. Heck, the spherical world was added so late they didn't get the placement of effects and generic buildings right (they are displaced from their proper positions, the amount varying with the altitude of the airport). Many of us who expected to migrate to FSX rather painlessly suddenly found we had to rework our most complex sceneries. Many decided the benefits of FSX wasn't worth the work, so we stuck with FS9.
I'm not saying that the switch to FS9 scenery tools didn't lead to better scenery (it did), but we felt betrayed and were in no mood to switch to a sim where our scenery IMHO doesn't look as good as in FS9. (brown airport polygons, hokey traffic on roads, emphasis on moving elephants, virtually no improvement to the AI traffic system, poorer apron/taxiway display, the FS9 trick for no pushback no longer works, etc.). FSX was a boon to the modern airport user with the new jetways, ramp markings, and moving ramp vehicles, but did very little for us classic airport scenery developers.
Take care,

Tom and others interested after having spend a great deal of time with all these sceneries I have come to the conclusion that most (probably about 90% at least) of these scenery's even though they were designed for MS2004 or FS9, which I have installed and they have worked fine for me in FSX, which is great.
There may be a caveat on this, first I am using ORBX Global, Global Vector to sort out the landclass issues and also Vector has an addon correction tool which fixes up airport elevations and other LC stuff for any addon scenery and this seems to do its job well.
The other thing that may also affect all this is that I keep all my addon scenery outside of FSX in two separate folders, AFCADS and SCENERY which is then subdivided into folders by area or region. This way you can always quickly identify any scenery that does not work, has issues or causes a conflict.
Other than that I have the Cal Classic Library and Cal Classic Landclass in my external SCENERY folder and do not add in any of the objects, world scenery bgl's or traffic files that may come with various scenery packages relying upon the CC FSX Libary and CC LC and ORBX to do the rest.
So if your an FSX user and would like to put the world back where it should be and be fully immersed in the Cal Classic era the above is a bit of a guide or how to.
I think it is only worthwhile for me to post or comment on scenery that has not worked and so far that has been very little indeed. When you think about it most airports in the world have changed little, unless they were new constructions after about 1980 so there is no reason other than the surrounding LC why CC airports etc should not drop right into place. I do see the changes in the exclusions but thats minor. The navaids and ATC seems to be aligned as well (But I have not yet done any precision IFR flying (ILS) to see if this is always the case.
I have not installed any AI traffic but I think given the issues with objects etc this may be a whole other problem suite but I generally sim fly without ATC and AI anyway, I like the peace and quiet so to speak so I do not miss it but a few aeroplanes in the parking slots would be nice, a job for another day.
Hope this helps any other FSX users.

Hi, When you see poles above a terminal, it often means you are missing a tower object that is not displaying. I'm not sure why that would be happening. The default FSX airport ramp equipment is showing up because it will appear randomly at any GATE, depending on the Airport Vehicle Density slider position you have in Settings/Display/Traffic. If you drop that slider right to None, that may fix it. Hope this helps, Tom further on this, the pole issue, I have noted this happens at several airports, to my eye it looks like a light pole and they are always near a terminal and are displaying in the horizontal plane well above the area they might be, whatever they may be, I suspect a light pole and light is missing or? Any ideas how to track this one down or fix it. It is not a show stopper and can easily be ignored but it happened at NFFN Nandi, AYPY Port Moresby, AGGH Honiara and PWAK Wake Island, there were others. Dropping the airport vehicle density slider resolved the ramp equipment issue, would I be correct in assuming these cannot be replaced by vintage equipment because they are dynamic models in FSX?

And how about the Washington National Airport 1960 (KDCA)? I can't download it.

Hi, Regarding the poles above the AYPY terminal - I don't see that in my FSX installation - it must be from some other scenery? The links to Washington National (KDCA) on my scenery pages have been fixed. For some reason AVSIM won't access the file via the Download ID, like all the other files. You can create your own FSX dynamic vehicles using a program like GMAX or even Sketchup and substitute them for the default vehicles. I replaced the fuel truck with one of Al Courtney's as an experiment long ago, and it works fine. Details and download here: calclassic.proboards.com/thread/7148/airport-vehiclesHope this helps,

Not sure why I held off - but installed LA/MISS/ARK for the first time.
And unlike with any other Calclassic airport, I’m getting all the airports in this pack missing the main airport wall textures - showing only black on main terminal and some hangars. Roofs are usually ok.
Running FSX, have installed the latest FSX library pack.
Thoughts?
Thx.

It sounds like the texture bit maps from the ArkLaMiss package were not pasted into the package’s Texture folder. The roof textures are coming from the main FSX Texture folder.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the quick reply, and sorry for the late reply. Was travelling, and then the site was down yesterday when I was free. I did check my install though, and all (approx 110?) bmps were in my main ArkLAMiss addon scenery/scenery folder. Very weird. I'm running DX10 (never been a problem insofar as missing textures like this) but preventatively, I ran Steve's Fixer. Nothing.
Will take another look tonight, as I'm pretty keen to explore these in more detail.
cheers,
dl
