Shalom and greetings all my pals,
I am for first time flying CalClassics Lockheed L-749 Constellation with speed pack by Jahn. Is the cruising speed 195kt normal for the plane at FL200? This plane's speedometer seems to stop at 195 kt as if it is top maximum speed at 100 percent throttle thrust.
Anything I can do to increase to 225 kt speed, please?
Or am I flying at wrong altitude?
I am using FSX with SP1 and SP2 under Windows 7 Professional.
Thanks,
Aharon

Hi,
According to the checklist, typical cruise speeds are between 170 and 185 KIAS:
"Medium CRUISE POWER (about 1200 HP) [ ] MAP for 140 BMEP (about 36"), => FL180: full throttle [ ] 2000 RPM //Yields 170 kts IAS at 100,000 lb and 185 kt IAS at 80,000 lb at FL 180 //FF 4 x 525 = 2100 lbs/hr"
Hope this helps,

Okay, Tom Thanks
When I landed on KDAL runway 13R, the right landing gear collapsed. I have no idea why it happened. Before I landed on runway, I checked the cockpit panel's light indicator for all landing gears and it showed three green lights on.
After landing and seeing right landing gear collapsed, the three green lights for landing gear indicator went off. You should have seen LOTS of smokes!! WHOA!!!
I landed carefully and softly at about -100 fpm.
Moreover, the flaps refused to retracted after I exited from runway to taxiway.
Regards,
Aharon

Well, finally one that I feel totally qualified to address.
Your problem is that the gear and flaps were lowered at too high an airspeed. One of the beautiful features of these models is that you MUST adhere to certain parameters or damage or inops will occur. The maximum speeds for gear and flap operation are listed below the throttles on the quadrant. You MIGHT be allowed to fudge these numbers, but only by a couple of knots either way.
When you lowered flaps and gear at too high a speed, you damaged the hydraulic system. This is indicated on the little pop up window available when you right click the icon with the check mark. Hydraulic integrity is shown about halfway down the list. It will show as a percent in red. 100 % can be restored by clicking on the percent number.
I try to make it a habit to check this chart every time when setting up for landing.
Let us know how you make out.
Cheers, Mike

Ahh thanks Mike for interesting answer. I thought FSX mistook my -100 fpm landing as 700 fpm landing that could cause landing gear collapse. I did not realize it could be the case of using flaps and landing gear at wrong air speed!!! Oh well it was my first flight on Connie!! Once again, thanks for interesting explanation. I am really surprised because I did not set FSX to any series of failures and I never knew that any add-on plane can cause failures with FSX settings set to NO failure option. Strange I did not see any warning of hydraulic failure? Regards, Aharon

Mike gave you the info on how to check that before landing.

Hi,
the FDE is set up to look for handling errors by itself and will fail systems accordingly, regardless whether you activated fail modes in FS or not. You may check for it on pilot's and FE's panel (the classic way) or using the system info shortcut. Either way, remain within performance limits and you won't damage either the aircraft or your pride.
Best regards, Volker

170 knots indicated at FL180 is approximately 225 knots true airspeed. If that's the speed you're trying for, you may already be achieving it.
Check out the propliner tutorial on the main page under "tutorial" if you haven't already checked it out.

Mrcapitalism
I did notice 225 airspeed or ground speed. Thanks for your tip!!!
To all my pals,
My next flight will be SUPER CONSTELLATION 1049G!!! And I hope I will not have collapsed landing gear!! LOL

Aharon

I flew L1049G and everything was normal until 3 out of 4 engines failed for no reason. I cannot find manual how to restart engines and how to correct hydr failure.
I do not know what I did wrong??? I did everything carefully like I did with L749.
The posts here say press hydr button to correct it but I cannot find?

There was probably a reason the engines quit, you just don't know it. What I know to do to fix the hydraulics is: 1. Right click the icon with the checkmark on it. 2. In the resulting window that appears, click on the red hydraulic lettering.

That is why I said I cannot find it Regards, Aharon

Hi, The icon area is where it is shown in the illustrations in the manuals. You may have to move the curser over that area before they appear. There's sets on the 2D, the VC and the FE panels, all with the checkmark box.
This is a complicated aircraft and I'm afraid you may be in for a pretty miserable time unless you exactly follow the procedures and limits in the manuals. Make sure you have the L1049G or H upgrade version and look at all the manual and checklist versions that come with the release. I can assure you it's well worth spending time on it! Read the FSAviator tutorial as well.

As Bill says, the icons do not appear until you hover the mouse over the area (just to the left of the center console on the 2D panel).
