For the past monthor so, I have not been able to open any links on this forum. I have checked my security programs and to the best of my knowledge they are not the problem. Links on other applications work just fine. I am running Windows 8.1. When I click on a link it seems to process it but all I get is a blank page. The windows task bar reads "about blank" Can anybody help me with this problem. Thanks in advance.

Which browser are you using? Have you tried another one? Did you check your firewall, and perhaps give proboards some permissions?

Thanks, Tom. Using IE. Checked firewall and can't find anything obvious. But I'm not that computer savvy and not sure what to look for. How would I go about giving ProBoards permission? Thanks again.

Hi,
That would depend on the firewall software you are using. What version of IE are you using?
BTW, there is an About:Blank virus, but I don't think it is site specific.

Try this:
Close your browser. Turn all your firewall and security settings. Open your browser and go right to calclassic.com. Do not go to any other site first. Now go to the forum, and see if any one of those links will work. If it does work now, then the problems are in your browser's security settings. If you still cannot open any links, then the problems are elsewhere. Once you have tried this test, close your browser and reset your firewall and security settings. Don't forget to do this!
You need to see that your browser is accepting cookies from those sites. Some sites will not load if they cannot install a cookie in your temp folder.
Clear all your cookies and internet browser history. Clear your browser's cache. Now restart your computer, and try to see if you can access those links.
If they still don't work, I would suggest using another browser. IE is not a good browser. Tom quit using it years ago, and I gave up on it three years ago and use Firefox. I could not be happier. It is 1000 times the browser that IE could ever hope to be.
Like I said, IE is not a good browser. I don't know a single person under 40 who uses IE anymore. The only people I know who have encountered horrible viruses that have sent their computer to the repair shop or the trash bin have all be using IE. Terrible, terrible browser; a relic from the past.

Thanks so much, DTM. I'm well over 40 so that's part of the problem. Have taken all the actions suggested by you with only partial success. Will now try Firefox for the browser. Once again, thanks a lot for your concern.

I sincerely hope this works for you. I know just how frustrating it can be when you want to access something and your browser/computer/anti-virus won't allow you.
Sometimes there seems to be no solution.
Case in point. I cannot access Avsim.com forums from this computer. No matter what I do, even when i am logged in, I get the message saying "you must allow cookies from this site" and it blocks me, even when I have allowed cookies from ALL sites. This happens when I try to log in with Firefox, IE, or even with AOL's browser. Clearing the cache, browser history, clearing temp files and cookies has not worked. Nothing seems to work. Accessing the Avsim is easy, I get right in, but not on the forums site. It is for this reason, that for the last year or so, I have not given permission for any of my files to be uploaded to Avsim.com until they can come up with a way to fix their site so this problem will NOT occur. Flightsim, never a problem, but Avsim, even since that wipeout crash of theirs, nothing but endless petty problems.

Get Google Chrome.
Simple, uses less resources than even Firefox.

There is some controversy with Chrome - some have had great experiences, and others claim it took over their computer and never let go...

I have a friend in St. Louis who got a virus from using IE because many viruses are set up to attack IE's vulnerabilities. It ended up trashing his old computer. IE users are THE NUMBER ONE GROUP OF COMPUTER USERS WHO GET A VIRUS!
So he bought a new computer with windows 7. I told him to install Firefox, but he was afraid of it because he was not familiar with it, so he installed Google Chrome.
Chrome took over every aspect of his computer. Many peripheral browser addons were not allowable because of Chrome. He hated it after 6 months. He said it was like having a hijacking virus on his computer. It directed every aspect of his internet experience to some type of Google owned product or site. He called out a repairman to help remove Chrome because he could not remove all of Chrome's components, and the repair man said because Chrome is so invasive, the only way is to go back to a factory reset - and of course that means having to copy all your files to a backup or lose them.
I run Firefox. With Firefox, I run download helper, available from Mozilla (Firefox). With this addon, I am able to download any streaming video on the net and save it as a file in a location I choose. I run AdBlock Plus, also a Firefox addon. With this, I have not seen ONE SINGLE AD on the entire internet now for over one year. Think of it - no ads here at CC, none at YouTube, none when looking at websites. I am free from all advertising! And no wait either, the ad just never shows up, the site pops up immediately. My friend tried this with Chrome, and it only partially worked. And he still can't download streaming videos off the net.
This is just my experience. If you feel you want to use Chrome, then by all means proceed! All I can say then is "the best of luck to you" lol.
