I've been rebuilding my FS 9 after buying a new computer and Hawaii is the current area under construction. I just installed Honolulu 1959 and the old (1959) terminal shows up fine (screen shot one). The trouble is that the original MS terminal is still in position on the north side of the runways and all the AI aircraft are parked at the gates there (second screen shot). I've read the instructions a couple of times and I didn't see where I had to deactivate any files, but it seems like I should deactivate something regarding the original terminal. Of course the required CalClassic core, land class and static objects folders are active in the scenery library. The only other Honolulu scenery that I have installed is the Ford Island NAS package by Randy Cain. I deactivated it, but with the same results as above. My goal is to get Pearl Island NAS, Hickum Air Base and Honolulu International all up and running together with the Calclassic AI aircraft. Attachments:

Hi,
You need to remove all files that start with phnl or xphnl from your CalClassic Core/scenery folder. Then make sure that the CalClassic Core layer is listed lower than all other classic scenery layers in the Scenery Library.
Hope this helps,

Will do Tom. I've got the Core layer well buried in the hierarchy.
Update:
Well I tried that and it returned the the airfield to completely stock MS layout. I took a look at the downloaded Honolulu 1959 files and those phnl and xphnl files were part of the download so that explains the loss of the 1959 scenery by removing them.
Any idea where the stock MS Honolulu files might be? I probably need to remove them or override them, but there doesn't seem to be any info on that procedure in the readme file.
I don't recall this being an issue on my previous computer so I'm obviously missing something.

Hi,
Have you downloaded the new Hawaii scenery package and installed it into its own scenery layer?

Bear in mind that on 31 March 1962, Naval Air Station Ford Island was fully decommissioned.

I deleted everything, downloaded a fresh copy of Honolulu 1959, reinstalled it and all is well in the Rainbow State.
Thanks for the help.

Hello folks,
I've meant to ask this before but always figured I'd eventually figure it out - to no avail.
Bottom line - Honolulu just ravages my FPS like absolutely no other scenery does. LAX comes close, maybe down to 12 FPS from my locked 30 - but we're talking 7-8 FPS.
I've tried both the FSX and FS9 version (latter is slightly better) - what are my options? Which bgls contain the people, or the cars? that usually helps - but since they're not labeled, nothing I've tried seems to work.
The terminal is gorgeous, and I really like Hickam - but at present, they're just only to look at, would like to fly in/out effectively.
Any idea what I can remove to make it run a bit better?
Thanks very much in advance.
FSX+Accel, REX.

Hi,
What are your frame rates at in Hawaii? I have a "second tier" gaming computer and I easily get 29 to 31 frames per second at Honolulu.
What are your sliders set at? What is your AI traffic density set at? What type of processor do you have and how much ram does it have? Also what type of video card do you have and what is its capability?
As a scenery developer, sometimes I get horrible frame rates, especially after working with scenery - loading, reloading FS, deleting this and that..... I find a simple trick is to first go to the default flight, save it, and then shut down FS. Then start FS and THEN go to your normal flying and see if frame rates increase. Another trick is to delete the FS9 config file and let it rebuild you a new one, sometimes those get corrupted.
Also, is there some possibility that FS is trying to load two sceneries at Hawaii, and this is causing the problem? Do you have any other Hawaii scenery active? If so, un-check it and deactivate it in the world scenery library, then restart FS and see if that helps.

Hi,
The first thing I would try is the default flight, as Mike says.
If your frame rate is still low, try moving the Scenery Density slider to Normal. This will remove some of the cars, etc.

Hi gents,
I suppose I didn't give you too much to work on.
I have an i5 4430 3GHz CPU with a 8Gb RAM. Decent video card - GTX660. FSX runs excellent on it - fluid at 30 fps (pegged), and most Calclassic sceneries (eg: East Europe) run at fluid 20ish. The two exceptions are LAX (12ish) and PHNL at 7-8ish. I'm running med/normal scenery density already. Tried with default flight.
Again, I know FSX is not the intended platform - it's just that the other sceneries work quite adequately FPS-wise, and so figured if I could take out some of the cars/people, if they were in an isolated .bgl.
Thanks for any help.

Hi dl, this is really very unusual, even if PHNL is an frame rate killer. My equipment is an i5-4590 3.3GHz CPU with a 8Gb RAM but a very old ATI HD3600 and get a little over 25fps. If you followed Tom's suggestion, maybe here somthing more that might be help: 1) Did you switch off "shadow on ground of own aircraft"? This is one of the greatest fps-killer in FSX. 2) Did you restart Windows and than open FSX without doing anthing else, so that the memory is not fragmented? 3) Try to switch of ai traffic to see any difference. 4) Here my scenery settings (sorry for the label text, but I think you all know what I mean) 5) If you still have issues check for double/wrong scenery bgl-files in this area. Cheers Bernie

Hi,
something else I got in mind, pls. tell me if am I wrong, that you use an scenery enhancement package?
I used the ORBX demo version with FSX and the asphalt runway, plus the detailed taxi ways (texture size), really nocked me out when flying at PHNL (only 8 to 10fps).
Also some areas (e.g. Cape Canaveral) looked deserted, in terms of autogen (only few trees, where actually should be plenty).
After the deinstallation of ORBX everything was fine.
Hope this helps Bernie

Hello all, OK - I think I've identified the main contributing factor - AI traffic volume. It's odd, since at 50% it was good at all the other airports, so from an "all things being equal" point of view, I didn't think it would be a big deal. And indeed, even if I dial it down to 0%, it's still not at the 30 fps I get on any other Calclassic airport with 0% AI ... about 20 fps or so. But at least I can effectively use it - I just have to have very "quiet" AI activity - and that's a reasonable tradeoff to make in order to enjoy it. Thanks Bernie and Dennis and everyone else. ps - knowing your pc's specs, Bernie, means that I'm comfortable knowing your Cape scenery will work ok on mine. You have no idea how much I'm looking forward to that!!

PHNL has twice the typical number of AI aircraft present, since it is a very busy civil airport *and* a very busy military base. I would think that only LAX, ORD, and JFK would likely have more.

Hi dl, this stuff is brand new. The Cape Canaveral was designed for my old dual core E6300 2.8GHz with 4Gb RAM and the ATI HD3600, which served me well the last five years. Need to collect some money now to buy a GTX750. Progress on the Cape Canaveral scenery is a bit on hold, since I'm quite bussy in my job right now. Cheers Bernie
