Please remove this thread if it is thought inappropriate. I do not use the virtual cockpit in the DC6b and would like to get the sim to run rather faster by removing it. I have seen comments on the forum by people who have done this by modifying the model file using a Hex Editor, which I have. Might it it be possible for someone to post information on exactly how it is done? Many thanks in advance,
Ken

Hi,
0. Back up the original MDL file (in a model folder) by copying and pasting it back in the same folder.
1. In your hex editor, load the plane's original MDL file.
2. Search the file for 0022003900 (Raw Hex Bytes)
3. When you find it, search again for the SECOND occurrence.
4. Edit the string by changing the 39 to a 38.
5. It should now look like 0022003800
6. Save the file.
Hope this helps,

Tom, Many thanks indeed. I will just add a trifle more information for those who are as ignorant about these things as myself. The program I used is called HxD Hex Editor by Maël Hörz. It can be downloaded in a portable zip file version and will run without needing to be installed on your computer. When you open the model file you wish to alter it will automatically make a back-up, but it is still a good idea to back the file up in a different folder anyway. When you run the program the first thing to do is run File - Open from the drop down menu and browse to the model file. When it opens there are offset numbers in blue down the left hand side of the page and against each one are 16 horizontal columns each consisting of two numbers. You can find the numbers concerned by pressing Control F and typing the number in the box which opens, selecting Hex Values as your Data Type im the drop down menu. Go to the Second instance (without worrying that the sequences straddle two lines) and change 39 to 38. Then save and you are done. In the models I have changed this second instance has begun on Offset Number 000013BO, but I don't know whether all models are the same. Hope this helps - somebody, Ken
