Chris,
As you can see from the screenshot I'm missing the Hudson River (also the East River). This is not a big deal to me but I understand that in the future a guy named "Sully" is going to be looking for it. I downloaded from Flight Sim. Is it possible that a BGL is missing? The other screenshots are of the 1958 and 1962 scenery folders. I have the NY aerial photo turned off. I also added your bitmaps to the scenery\cities\newyork folder. I'm stumped at this point. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
AI aircraft approach the IAF of the approach in a straight line from their departure airport. There is no way to control the direction they travel to that point, short of avoiding certain departure airports.

You have to leave the photoscenery turned ON to see the rivers.

Tom, Thanks for your suggestion. I turned the NY photo on and I now get what looks like an asphalt jungle. Picture attached. Ed

Odd, I have no idea. I assume you turned on the default New York Aerial Photo layer?

My bad. I didn't follow the directions correctly on installing the new texture bitmaps. I renamed the default folder and just added the new folder changing the name to texture. I was supposed to copy in the new textures. It all works correctly now. Phew! This kind of stuff didn't happen to me when I was drinking a six pack a day. I can't seem to do anything right now that I've quit drinking. (well almost) Ed

Bernard,
Chris uses Tom's Canarsie AI circling approaches for 13L/R and it works fine for me. Your traffic should start an approach from somewhere between the Verrazano Bridge and Rockaway Point regardless of the direction of the flight's origin. There's something wrong if it goes over downtown NY.
Also it's worth changing "Kennedy" to "Idlewild" to get ATC calling it by its original name if you know how to.

Hi Bill,
That's the approaches I got half an hour ago with two different weather settings for exactly the same flight DAL 822 KATL-KJFK:
default real weather
FS Global Real Weather
Really strange!

If the wind isn't really high they are the "preferred approaches".

Odyssey of flight AAL 940 KCVG-KJFK with near crash on runway - not convinced that wind is involved.

Are you trying to let the GPS control the approach via the AP? These are visual approaches, and should not be auto-flown. Also, you should ask for the manual approach and fly it manually, without turn-by-turn instructions from ATC.

Sorry Tom, I think you misunderstood my posts. That's what AI do, not approaches flown by myself.
But meanwhile I installed scenery and traffic in a virgin FS9, and the landings are performed as descripted by Bill. So the strange approaches stated above must have other causes and probably specific to my settings.

Check for duplicate AFCADs or other add-ons for the region.
