I am using the DC6B with Vern Opperman's Conair texture as an AI plane for a new scenery, and it refuses to land when anyone is looking. It reports at 6 miles, is told to join downwind, then hides behind a tree. When I look later it is sitting happily on it's parking spot, and is ok with demonstrating that it can taxi out and then take off using half the runway. Any ideas? Has anyone else had trouble using it for AI? An email to rogwen at rogers.com would be appreciated.

I retried it with a different texture as Vern's config text was a bit different. The DC6B overflew the airport in a straight line, so still no success. I would expect this to mean that maybe the parking space is too small, but 30 metres radius should be big enough and in fact I had enlarged it to 40 metres. The runway is over 7,500 feet, so no problem there either, and if it can taxi TO the runway then it should be able to taxi FROM the runway. Ah well, another FS9 mystery.

The flight dynamics for AI planes are a fair bit different to those for user aircraft. Could be that the FS9 AI pilot is simply too stupid to land such a complex propliner.
The AI DC-6B might be able to use paints made for the end user version, so you might want to use the AI version.

Hi, No, the flyable aircraft do not have flight dynamics that are AI compatible. So you need to use the AI version. The High Quality model (HQ) uses the same textures as the flyable one. So add your texture's folder to the aidc6b folder, add the fltsim entry to the aidc6b aircraft.cfg file, and specify model=cargo_gp (cargo for no airstairs) or model=spinnercargo_gp for large prop spinners. As easy as that. More details in the High Quality readme.txt file in the aidc6b folder.

Thanks for all of that. And now I was told that Conair no longer fly a DC6B!

There is also a section of the AIR file that must be added or it will never turn...

I have now downloaded and installed the ai version of the DC6B, and installed the Reeve Aleutian textures for use from my new version of King Salmon PAKN. Once again it does not land, though it is happy to taxi out and take off. Other planes are doing both, so it is not an airport problem. It could be an operator problem (meaning me) but I have no idea what. Once again, any ideas?

Hi,
Are you sure you removed the fltsim section from the flyable DC-6B? If not, it might still be using that one.

I got that wrong! I scrolled down and found an AI DC6B and installed it, and only now noticed it was for Fs8. Where can I find the ai FS9 version of the DC6? Without flight plans etc, just the plane.

Here: www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htmDownload file #2, install into a temp folder (press ... during the installation), and pick out the aidc6b folder. Move it to your Aircraft folder. Follow the instructions in the High Quality text file in the same aidc6b folder to add you new livery. Hope this helps,

That worked, thanks for that. In that huge list of planes can you suggest a freight version of the DC6 or DC7, preferably one that has a weather-worn appearance?

Hi,
I don't know of one offhand. Check out my Screen Shot forum for likely liveries.
