Hi dear scenery designers, I've little doubt about the 1962 Havana scenery. Please don't misunderstand me, this is no criticism. I'll only let you know my informations, encouraged by the readme text of this scenery. In 1962 practical nothing exist west of the runway. No facilities, ramps, aprons, buildings and not at all such large hangars! The long parallel taxiway does not exist to. It was built in the late 70's, early 80's. In 1962 only the new terminal was erected over the old one. The runway was extended to 10 499 feet lenghth and strengthened for aircrafts up to 180 t TOW. By the way, there was an active railway crossing the runway! This unusual arangement was made because rerouting that railway would have be more expensive than the entire runway lengthening. Only 10 years or more later the railway was rerouted south around the airport. The street to the terminal crossed the runway to in that days. May be the traffic light was at this crossing. If you look at the GE images, you can see the remains of the railway crossing at the runway today. Again, I love all the classic scenerys and admire the freeware designers. But unfortunately I've no knowledge in scenery design. I made a sketch of the 1962 situation at MUHA, may be it is possible to correct the Havana 1962 scenery and this helps a bit. MM

As you might guess, we had very little to go on when Mike created Havana back then (he actually did it in a few days while staying at my place!). It is on his list to redo, with more accuracy.
Thanks,

When I did Havana years ago, I had three postcards, one bad aerial photo of 1/4 of the airport and that was it. Most of it was just an educated guess, as photos and maps were not available then. A brand new Havana will be part of the Caribbean 1962 scenery that I am working on, as will all the big Cuban airports. First, I have to finish painting 8 AI and then schedule them. Then I have to help Tom with my part of the airports on the final CA59/CA62 update. Then I want to finish the last three airports and the landclass files for Baja California 1962 and release those. Then, I can resume work on Caribbean 1962.

There are 1959 and 1963 charts for Havana plus pictures on my Flickr page. You can see big changes in the airport layout from 1959 to 1963. From a personal point of view I like the 1959 layout and the 1940s/1950s terminal. Link to the album: www.flickr.com/photos/12530375@N08/sets/72157647418419802/John

Hi, The old terminal is great, but I wouldn't want to build it...

The old terminal was completely modernized in 1956 or 1957 to the current ugly box look. Not only would it be hard to build, but we don't even have any calclassic traffic files that would served it. I will not be building any military bases for Caribbean 1962. I will of course, backdate what is there, if applicable and I may do a tad bit more to Guantanamo, something along the lines of Hickam AFB in the Hawaii scenery. Neither will I be building things that have to do with cities such as landmarks or buildings. I never notice those anyway as I am so busy on climbout or approach that I don't have the time to sightsee. I will be doing the Florida Keys, Marathon and Key West airports. Marathon is already done, I posted a picture of the terminal on the AI L-188 update thread. I believe that the thread was started by Tom along the lines of "What I have been doing" or something like that. But first, finishing these AI repaints. I have done over 120 repaints this year. You know it is our goal to refreshen most all the old repaints, as some were just lifted off of FS98 paints, and others were incorrect, or from back in 2005 when I was still using MS paint. So this year has mostly been AI work. Then I must build Fresno 1959/1962 from scratch as part of the CA59/62 scenery package. A brand new "old" terminal is done. I also must build Long Beach airport from scratch, and I want to build a new San Diego terminal and the International arrivals building. The rest of my part of CA59/62 is completed. Lastly I must go back and finish Baja California 1962. I need to build La Paz airport, and finish all the land class tiles for the entire Baja peninsula. This will be sort of a temporary scenery. I will send all the source files to Juan so when he completes his Mexico scenery he can incorporate my Baja scenery into it. Only then can I go back to Caribbean 1962 that I started on 3 years ago. I would say 15 to 20 percent of it is done. Much work to do, as always.

Not quite the subject, but while adding Pan Am flights from Key West to Havana in FSGW3, I came across to some Havana scenery parts included in "1939 Boca Chica Naval Station" (!) scenery. The famous Hotel Nacional de Cuba is placed with a slight heading error as well as the Capitol. However, they are in good company with some other default monuments in the world! Bernard

[/quote] Hi Dennis, Tere may be a more quick interim solution? Deleting of all the taxiways and aprons west/northwest of the runway in AFCAD is easy, that can I do myself. All buildings and some objects in this area should also simply deleted, but that I can't do. I don't know how effort this make? Than later on if time permits you can make a more detailed new version.
