Shalom and greetings all my pals,
While looking for cool golden Caribair livery for Convair plane on flightsim website, I came across and downloaded CV-640 along with three different Caribair liveries.
I am wondering who made this CV-640 model base? The aircraft cfg and the installation instructions made no mention of the software company that made this freeware CV-680.
Anybody flying freeware CV-640?? I looked at the files and the model base along with many files were from year 2008.
Thanks for any input any of you might offer on this mystery.
Regards,
Aharon

Hi! I fly this plane too, but I use an "early" version" the developer's name is Carlos Marrero, and you're right, the plane itself seems to be built using spare parts & textures from CC convairs, although it's not accurate on it's tail, nose & engine shape, it has an acceptable looking & flying for a freeware aircraft, The early version I fly, uses a modified CC CV-580 texture for the fuselage, which makes it easy to paint using the available paintkit, although there are some allignment issues that require later adjustments...I aliased the CC CV-580 panel and Dart engine turboprop sounds..that's OK for me I have made 2 repaints for this plane, Trans Texas 1965 livery (although it was a CV-600 on the real life).....and Aeronaves TSM, a Mexican cargo airline still flying CV-640's I'll post some screenshots tonight.

Thanks Juan
Just want to know info and is the latest version of freeware CV-640 good? I am going to install that plane with cool Caribair livery and see if it is good or not. Golden Caribair livery looked awesome in real life and I want to see if it also looks awesome in FSX too!
Is there any physical difference between CV-580 and CV-640 in length size?? Is CV-640 little big longer than CV-580?
Are liveries interexchangable between CalClssics CV-580s and private custom made CV-640s?
Good luck with your screenshots.
Regards,
Aharon

"Initially refered to as the 240-D, 340-D and 440-D respectively, the designation Convair 600 (for ex-240’s) was adopted in 1965 and Convair 640 (for ex-340/440’s) in 1966. ... Kits were also sold for airlines to make their own conversions which entailed few changes aft of the engine firewall. The Dart and four blade Dowty-Rotol 13 ft. diameter propeller unit was attached to the original cowling but offset 8 inches from the original centerline to provide adequate airscrew clearance. Some structural strenghtening was necessary, particularly for the 600, and two air compressors were added for pressurization at the higher operating altitudes. An AiRsearch APU in the starboard nacelle was optional. After initial flight tests, the beaver-tail fairing of the nacelle and exhaust tailpipe was extended to prevent interference of the engine exhaust to the flaps."- www.prop-liners.com/cvhistory.htmAdd the ugly, short radar nose and cockpit-related adaptions to the Dart engines into the mix and that should be it in terms of modifications. Convair 580s needed a few more mods - mostly regarding the horizontal and vertical stabilizer - for enhanced stability in engine-out situations. The fuselages were essentially the same, so you might be able to use 340/440/580 repaints in the 640.

Hi Aharon. Sorry, i couldn't take the screenshots from the sim because I'm on the process of a new FS9 installation, still migrating planes, sceneries & other tools but answering one of your questions....Textures for CC convairs are not compatible with the CV-640 FS9/FSX model, because the textures are not exactly the same ... except for the CV-640 early FS9 model (cv-640cm.zip) wich uses modified fuselage textures from the CV-580 but requires some allignment adjustments. Hoever, here's some screens from MCX....as I said, aircraft looks fairly good
