I have uploaded several CV-580 textures for FSX.
When I start FSX and select CV-580 aircraft it shows up very dark in both the selection menu and also at the selected airport during bright daylight.
Any ideas why this is happening and what would be rquired to correct this???
Thank you....Herman

I assume that other planes do not have this problem?
Are you using a different specular texture? Or is one specified and you are not using one?

Thank you Tom for your reply.
There are a couple of other aircraft in my FSX Hanger that have a similar problem. I do recall, that the cv-580 FSX textures do have the option of 32 0r 64 bit.Perhaps I need to try another bit texture.
I did port over the texture to FS9 and they show up fine there.

Herman,
I expect that the alpha channel is your problem. The alpha channel of FSX is the complete opposite (negative) of that of FS9. Meaning that white should be black and vice versa. What do you use to add alpha channels? I use DXTBmp.
Cheers,
Henri

Hi,
I don't believe that FSX is the opposite of FS9. What I find is that you need a lot less darkness in the alpha channel in FSX as compared to FS9 for the same amount of shine.

Tom,
You are right. The alpha layer is not the opposite. However, from my experience painting some liveries for Qualitywings' BAe146 I learned that the alpha layers for the FSX version are a lot darker than those for the FS9 model (looking like its negative), suggesting that you need more darkness in the alpha channel for FSX as compared to FS9.
Kind regards,
Henri
