I am having a problem in using both FSX and FS9 in Windows 10, and it isn't just localized to one computer. It is the same problem on both my laptop and desktop machines.
I have FS9 installed on both machines and FSX installed on the desktop. The laptop using Intel brand HD graphics processor built into it. and the desktop uses an AMD Radeon HD 6670.
The problem is this, when i try to run the sims in Full Screen mode they go to a black screen when i try to use alt key to bring up menus or when i try to bring up check lists. Both sims work fine in windowed mode. i ran "troubleshoot compatibility" on the programs in both machines. This problem isn't limited to just one version of windows either.
The laptop is a Windows Home 64-bit and the desktop is Windows 10 Pro 32-bit.
So the only conclusion i can make these programs are to old for Windows 10, but here i have to say I use other games that are just as old and have no problem. My NASCAR Racing 2003 runs perfect and all my old EA Games Modal of Honor Allied Assault (plus expansions) run nicely under Windows 10
Both Widnows 10 are the release versions
Anyone have any thoughts on this.

Try going to the Compatibility tab in the Properties when you right click the FS icon. Try Disable Desktop Composition and the other choices there.

Through other research i have find that this problem seems to be new. It is most likely connected to Directx 12, and it didn't start to show up until later version of Windows 10 Tech Preview and now the final release of 10.
The timing of the problem started with when Dierctx 12 was intergrated into the program. So I guess i will continue to fly in windowed mode. the sims work perfect when they are set that way.

Tried, and those fixes were come up with in Technical Preview when it shipped with with Directx 11,

Like many other people my Windows 10 is currently downloading and I need to decide at some point whether to install it. I have always used FS9 full screen. Do I take it from your experience that the only problem occurs when pressing the Alt key or trying to bring up checklists and that one could get round this by going into Windowed mode simply to do that? Once the flight is set up - fuel loaded, date and time set correctly, etc - I do not normally use Alt during its course and therefore the problem would not be a major one. Or have I misunderstood? Many thanks, Ken

You understood me right, it occurs when i hit alt or try to bring up menus and checklists I haven't tried the maps in icons but i am sure it will happen that way as well

I can't get FS9 to even load after upgrading from Win7 to Win10. FSX both Steam Version and FSX Acceleration load fine and I tested in full screen mode and they worked fine so I am not having any issue there. My machine is a desk top I5 processor with built in graphics so nothing special. Just can't figure out why FS9 shows as not compatible with Win10. All three copies of FS9 for GW SW and modern are installed outside of the program directory but none of them will load regardless of compatibility settings.

To Cowboy40 Many thanks. I actually had some problems hitting the Alt key in full screen mode when I used Windows 7 and got into the habit of going into windowed mode first.I run Fs Widgets Electronic Flight Bag on a secondary monitor and can get all the information I need, including a moving map, from that, Ken

The fs9 and Windows 10 issue is quite a big one and not surprisingly there is now more than one thread on it. I have just posted in one of the others this link to a very detailed Microsoft help article on it: support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/837195Note: Tom has pointed out that in fact this article is from 2011 and not specifically about Windows 10.
