Hello, I intend to fly sometime around the year 1980, and I have plenty of good "ships" from that era to fly, both jets 'n props. For traffic I use MyTraffic 2006, abhorrent 3D models, but the only more or less complete traffic package for that era, that I could find. Now as for classic sceneries....that's a bit harder, as I can't seem to find any major 1980s airport scenery, so, as inappropriate as it is, I'm gonna use the 1960' sceneries available here at CalClassic...to simulate the 80s. Still better than using default sceneries...or modern-day scenery addons.
What I want to know is....since I'm not gonna be using the CalClassic AI traffic, but only the classic sceneries, do I still need the "CalClassic Core" layer? So far I've installed "Central Europe 1961" together with the "Static Objects Library" but none of them have a "CalClassic Core" layer. Is this layer needed if I only use the classic sceneries? Because in the installation instructions for "Central Europe 1961", at some point, it mentions that this scenery's "CalClassic Landclass" layer (which I've successfully installed) should be (among other positions) near the "CalClassic Core" layer...which I'm not sure is needed in my case...
Tank you kindly, D

AFAIK the only complex scenery that uses the CalClassic Core layer is the CA59/62 package. Most of those airports are in there. The other things in the core layer are the AFCADs in the AI package and perhaps other incidental files in similar packages. These backdate or remove default airports. For this reason this layer should be layered below all other classic scenery layers.
Hop this helps,

Just downloaded the "CA59/62" package only to see if it comes with the Core layer (which is needed for that scenery) and it sure does come with it. I guess if a particular package (scenery) doesn't come with certain things or if the instructions don't mention those things to be needed, then they are not needed, in this case, the Core layer for "Central Europe 1961". Thanks Tom that did help, it's crystal clear now.
Best Regards, D
