After installing Windows 10, when you reinstalled FS9 from a backup copy, how did you do it? Did you:
1. Use all four disks, delete the folders and files, then click and drag your backup FS folders and files to its new location, or
2. Did you just click and drag the backup files and folders to the new location?

I usually install FS9 to the folder name of my saved copy (that I want to use in future), rename the installed copy's folder to something else (like FS2004 Backup) and copy over the folders from my saved copy.

Do not forget to copy over the FS directory in 'My Documents' as well, & use the Flight1 registry fix tool.

I upgraded today, and when I opened FS, I got the splash screen, then a black screen, with the drive light flashing furiously. I retried a couple of times with the same result. Then, for whatever reason, it occurred to me to I try Alt-Enter, and the program started. I have no idea why, but it works.
It wasn't necessary to reinstall the program because I didn't do a clean installation; I upgraded.
Thank you both for your replies.

Not uncommon for it not to work in one mode (Full Screen/Windowed). You may need to set something in the Icon's Properties/Compatibility tab. Disable Desktop Composition is a common one.

Hi Tom,
I just tuned in. Where are the settings you referred to: Icon Properties, Compatibility Tab and Disable Desktop Composition?
Thanks for your suggestions.

The icon is the little picture of a DC-3 that sits on your desktop. You use it to start up FS2004. Right click on that.

Ok, I'll try that tomorrow. The computer with FS9 is currently imaging my upgraded C: partition.
Thank you for the info.

Installed Windows 10 over 7 - that's all. FS9 worked at first try and without any adjustments.

May I ask Dan if you are able to run FS9 in full screen mode. This is how I run FS9 on my Win7 machine and I want to keep running it that way. As jacklyon says above that FS9 does not run in full screen mode I was wandering if you had that experience also.

I also have a question for jacklyon:
How do I ask Win10 to install DirectX? Is DirectX downloadable from Microsoft? Where do I install it?
Thank you all for your replies.

FS9 runs normally in full screen mode.
Win10 has a lot of new and simplified features. Nevertheless I probably will reinstall Win7. I have problems to run some small but important tools like FSTflatten, which I use quite often. Not concerned with FS9, I also miss the possibility to open several sessions of Edge (the new IE) at the same time.
