Tom, thanks for explanations.
Willy, you got scammed. FSX box should NOT be 175 bucks or more!! Should be around 50 bucks.
Regards,
Aharon

Yep, MS no longer sells FSX, so the only boxed versions are the ones produced and sold years ago. Some who have them, especially if it is an unopened box, are treating them as collector's items and with prices to match.

Thanks Tom and Willy for answers. I will avoid FSX Steam since I do not want to start FSX by connecting to Steam first. Not interested into having my laptop hijacked to Steam website. I've switched to FSX:SE right after it was released and never saw anything on my computer hijacked.

I think Aharon means he doesn't want his computer to always be tied to the Steam web site?

Yes you need to link to Steam to start FSX but it's simple and you can then immediately switch your wifi off or to flight mode and carry on with FSX. Personally I think Steam FSX is great. I'm one of probably many who bought FSX on first release, tried it once and then consigned it to the cupboard. By the time I had a PC that FSX would perform with, the CD updates were no longer available so it was Steam or nothing. But I still prefer FS9 Bill

Great minds (or in my case not - so - great - minds) think alike

Some who have them, especially if it is an unopened box, are treating them as collector's items and with prices to match. Yep, that's what I ran into. I didn't want a used set that would possible be missing bits or with scratched discs. Even most of the used sets I was seeing were rather pricy if they were claiming to be like new and complete. I'm happy with Steam, even when flying online as this comp I have now doesn't seem to be bothered by it either. The only thing Steam I run into is updates (I only see these when I'm not flying) and the adds when FSX SE starts up and going to free flight stops those. For half of what I paid for the tin box FS 2004 when it came out, I'm very happy with SE. It's no where near as evil as some make it out to be. Now if I could only get it sorted out what CalClassics Scenery works and doesn't work.

Even the promotion/specials pop up during Steam's program start can be turned off, just like Steam autostarting with Windows. The only thing that took some getting used to is the fairly long path to the FSX folder, but a simple shortcut easily works around this. Regarding scenery compatibility, new ground polygons and/or exclusions made with ADEX will fix most issues. Combined with the classic AI traffic, however, which is entirely composed of portovers, you will suffer from dcreased performance.

Bought new computer. It is 2.6-3.5 GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad-Core Skylake sixth generation, 16GB ram, 6 GB dedicated Nivida GT1080 video ram, 1 TB hard drive at 7,200 rpm, 260 GB SSD hard drive, internal DVD drive, and 15.6 inch screen. Will take me time to install FSX and all add-ons!!
