I DO use the Jahn C-47 in FS9 and with it the Engine start gauge from the CC Convairs which works flawlessly. I don't imagine all the DC-3 addon liveries that are available for the default DC-3 will work on the C-47 but have never tried. Can someone answer this for me ?

No, AFAIK the textures are completely different.

Tom,
Thanks for the tip. So the cranking duration is always the same but slowing it reduces the rotations from 4 to 2. I get the same effect by editing the ENGINE_AUTOSTART_2 to reduce cranking speed from 25 to 20. So does prop_anim_ratio do exactly the same thing or does it have another purpose? I normally use 0.99.
Mike,
If it works on the Convairs then it must work on the DC-3's. I use exactly the same config settings for both the default and Jahn versions except of course for model=, contact points, light settings and panel views which are different for each version.
I think you can convert the Jahn FSX textures to FS9 but a bit of work. I have KLM and BEA but can't recall source.

Hi Bill,
Those two things do essentially the same thing. The difference is that you can customize the prop anim line for each plane, if you use the same auto start gauge for multiple planes (which you are not in this case).

Thanks Tom, that explains a lot. Often wondered why the prop_anim was in the aircraft sections not the propeller section.
Off to try the GCA now.

Just a postscript to this older thread.
Mike Deval had reported problems, the backward flip etc, using the realistic autostart with the default DC-3 amongst others and in my post 27 January I suggested a [piston_engine] section which does work.
I've now narrowed that down to just one line of that section. So for those of you using the Bitzer and Beaumont releases, with any DC-3 or C-47 version, then have a look at that section of the aircraft.cfg and if the first line reads,
[piston_engine] power_scalar =1.2 // was 1.0 Changed to meet cruise specs Piston power scalar
then change that line to read,
[piston_engine] power_scalar = 1.0 // Piston power scalar DO NOT CHANGE B&B=1.2 but makes autostart u/s
The B&B 4 tank etc releases with a readme dated January 2004 seem not to have this problem but then for a later February 2004 release package with all the mods and an IFR panel, Dave Bitzer produced a much modified aircraft.cfg to match real world performance figures and included this 1.2 value. Of course Tom's realistic start wasn't available then so couldn't be tested anyway.
