While backdating the navaids from my old manuals I have noticed that many of the Russian airports and the airports of the ex Russian states have the same NDB numbers on both ends of the runway but different Idents. Something you don't have a Western airports.
Does anyone know why this is so. Has me curious.

I assume it’s like real ILSs in this country. Only the one in use is turned on. The one on the other end of the runway is turned off.

Are there two transmitters as well? Are we talking civilian or military airfields?

Each has it own transmitter. Each transmitter can be switched on or off independently of the other. It works the same as an ILS. Every runway that is not in use, has its ILS switched off. As soon as the winds change and that runway becomes active again, somebody throws the switch and that ILS now is active, and the opposite end is switched off. If runway 18/36 has an NDB at each end, if 18 is active then 36 is switched off. As soon as 36 becomes active, then 18 is switched off.
Too bad FS can't do that. Only have ILSs working and active if its respective runway is active. The others are all "off" so tuning to them won't activate any ILS gauges on the panel.
