Shalom and greetings all my pals,
My goggle skills have exhausted all efforts for my desire to find and download Ansett Air Cargo livery for KBT Electra meaning that Google has failed to find such livery so I am wondering if any of you would know where I can find that livery ONLY for KBT model base of Electra, please as seen on the poster below showing the cargo livery on bottom of the poster?
Thanks for any assistance any of you might offer
Regards,
Aharon

Hi, Sorry, I can't find it. Why not use the 1966 livery and do something different?

aharon - I can help you there but I am sorry to say there are no Ansett Liveries for the KBT Electra that used the red tail period livery. There is an earlier Ansett passenger livery(Early Ansett stripe pattern colours)for the KBT Electra but it is unsuitable for the cargo version as it is the early sixties paint and is for the passenger model, the freighter and passenger models use different paint textures as well by the way. The only livery I have ever located was I think for the Mike Stone Electra and that was the white scheme and cannot be used. As a result I did start a paint for the cargo electra for the white scheme but I did not finish it, first the paint textures and mappings on the KBT electra are very difficult to work with and to get it right is painstaking work and well as you know other things were more important than hours fiddling with textures and paint programs. I also had some issues with the weird problems this version of the Electra had because it was a port over, but somebody managed a fix, but at the moment I am not flying the Electra at all. Now that I look at it, it is probably not to hard to finish it in the red tail version so if I get time I may have a go at it this weekend. I was more interested in the white scheme because of the wombat on the nose and I still have not found a good image of the wombat that I could use but you cannot do this paint without the Wombat as they were called the Wombats because they only came out at night like the Australian marsupial of the same name. Here is where I got to with the paint. Here is what I mean by the Wombat insignia on the nose. You will also note that the bottom of the aircraft is aluminium and the top is white and the KBT Electras use bump maps, specs etc so are hard to work with, I got mine all white but I also needed to revisit the general paint as well which is why it came to a halt, too much work at the time. The early Ansett passenger paint by the way for the KBT Electra is a superb piece of work.

Tom, Thanks for link. I will check it out but I think it is not crisp sharp that is necessary for my close up screenshots that you have come to know well As a result I did start a paint for the cargo electra for the white scheme but I did not finish it, first the paint textures and mappings on the KBT electra are very difficult to work with and to get it right is painstaking work and well as you know other things were more important than hours fiddling with textures and paint programs. Mikeh, Thanks for your wonderful kindness trying your luck to paint Ansett livery on KBT model base. If it is too difficult for you, you do not have to do that. It is too much trouble for you. Now that I look at it, it is probably not to hard to finish it in the red tail version so if I get time I may have a go at it this weekend. If you think it is not difficult, that would be nice and much appreciated or otherwise if it is too difficult, you do not have to do that. It is too much trouble for you. I was more interested in the white scheme because of the wombat on the nose and I still have not found a good image of the wombat that I could use but you cannot do this paint without the Wombat as they were called the Wombats because they only came out at night like the Australian marsupial of the same name. You will also note that the bottom of the aircraft is aluminium and the top is white and the KBT Electras use bump maps, specs etc so are hard to work with, I got mine all white but I also needed to revisit the general paint as well which is why it came to a halt, too much work at the time. Are you referring to this white scheme as seen below? Also, if it is too difficult, you do not have to do that. Not worth the trouble for you. The early Ansett passenger paint by the way for the KBT Electra is a superb piece of work. Where do I find it, please? Once again, thanks to Tom for link and to Mikeh for his extremely wonderful kindness. Regards, Aharon

Aharon - the KBT Ansett paint should be found easily on FlightSim.com or AVSIM just look for KBT Electra. There are also the TAA paints for the L-188 as well. I have begun the paint for the RedTail or Delta Tail version for the Cargo L188 for the KBT. I think this is going to work but a lot of changes etc still needed. Font type is an issue - they used three different types on the lettering on the fuselage for example. And the other interesting thing is this - When Ansett had their passenger L188s converted to pure freighters (not combis) they had the cargo door put in the rear left hand side of the aircraft, there were 3 so modified. As far as I can tell every other cargo version of the L188 had the cargo door on the front left hand side fuselage section and this is what KBT modelled not a rear opening door so it will not be the same in that respect. Other than that going ok so far, this proof of concept. May be a little while. As I also now have found a good wombat I will probably do the white version as well. First run still a lot to do and clean up to sort stuff required:

That is amazing!!!! And thanks for your kindness. Please take time. I am sure that I as well as millions of flightsimmers would appreciate your Ansett Electra liveries to go with Orbx's new entire Australia version 2 scenery and many separate Orbx airport sceneries of Australia! In matter of fact, you are making flightsimming history by becoming first person in history of flight sim to paint red and white Ansett liveries on KBT model base!

Aharon

aharon - I have finished the L188 Ansett Cargo version with the red tail. It is not perfect but I think it is quite passable you are welcome to a copy if you want it but I am not going to put it out for general distribution. No excuses but the KBT textures are very hard to work with because they come in a number of parts and if one side has 1,2,3 main texture parts they are all slightly different sizes because of the texture mapping, so the alignment of hull lines and lettering is a nightmare. I have spent as much time on this as I have and want to actually. As I said it is passable but not a masterpiece. Anyway I spend most of my sim time in the cockpit not looking at the aircraft from the outside. Drop me a PM here and I will give you a google drive link to get it. That goes for anybody else of course who is interested.

I have passed this on to Aharon. If anyone else would like it they can get it from my google drive at this link. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1luyaTkKy_lzN1-Wq9Gl2w-5AJ849WRaI?usp=sharingI am working on the White Version with the star tail. Not commercial quality but ok. Thats why no public release via FlightSim etc. Somebody would complain about a slight blemish or something, anyway it is a freighter they were always a little rough.

Aharon. I think I mentioned the fact there are a variety of Virtual Cockpit Textures for the KBT Electra that change significantly the cockpit lighting at night. I have collected a few over the years. They are not my work - but to give you an idea I took some screenshots. I am not sure which ones I put into the Ansett Cargo model that is all. This is the standard night cockpit: This came with the TAA textures for the Electra: And this one was done by the author of the Varig Textures; As a matter of interest the last one is closest to the real thing as I managed to see a cockpit video of the Reeve Aleutian Electra going into Cold Bay in Alaska and their cockpit lights were pretty close to this. If your interested you can find the repaints at FlightSim.com and the textures form part of those various downloads.

Mikeh,
Thanks for great cockpit screenshots!!! For years, I am using the KBT cockpit shown in your first of three cockpit screenshots and I have successfully merged that cockpit with your amazing Ansett livery.
Once again, thanks a zillion for your extremely kindness.
Regards,
Aharon
