Have run into a problem where my FS9 will not load up. I receive the "not working" message. A friend had a look for me and came across an "Weather.DLL" error message from the Modules folder. We transferred a Weather file over from a backup but that did not solve the problem. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem, and if so, how did they rectify it.
Just hate the thought of having to start all over again.
Thanks John

I'm not sure exactly where is the error occuring, but here are some things to try.
1. Quit FS. In the fs9.cfg file, edit the line in the [USERINTERFACE] section to:
SITUATION=
(remove everything to the right of the equals sign). Save and restart FS.
2. Rename the fs9.cfg file to fs9.cfg.orig. Start FS.
Hope this helps,

Hi Tom Thank you for your help again. Where do I find the fs9.cfg file? Going through the list of File Folders there is one titled "Config" and looking at that couldn't find any reference to USERINTERFACE. I'm sure I've looked at the fs9.cfg file at some time or another but can't recall where.

John, In my experience when FS9 starts crashing after a long period of working properly the culprit is very often - I am tempted to say almost always - a new rogue scenery file; there are quite a lot of them out there. It would be worth trying de-activating anything you have added recently, perhaps especially if you have modified it yourself. Crashes can also occur as a result of altering aircraft.cfg files in a way that the program cannot deal with. Hope this helps, Ken

That's often true. But Weather.DLL is a rare one for scenery and AI.

My problem, as of late, is that FS will suddenly go into pause mode by itself. Also will crash to a black screen, re-openable from the toolbar icon. Makes long unattended flights impossible. This AM in total frustration, I uninstalled the whole thing and will start fresh tonight w/ a new install. No new files installed recently except one which was installed AFTER the problem arose. If anyone needs me tonight, I'll be "recreating the world".

Note that there is a program that will save a flight every 5 minutes so you can go back to your flight even after a crash.

Does it go back to the time of the crash, or the present as if the crash had not occurred ?
Do you know the program name. Might be worthwhile to have even if you have no need for it.

Hi, I don't know what you mean, while you are flying it just saves Flights in an interval you specify. You can thus go back to one of the saved Flights after restarting the sim. It's called AutoSave, by Pete Dowson of FSUIPC fame. flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/1244/fs2004-autosave/Hope this helps,

It is indeed, as Tom says, a very useful program, especially if you are many hours into a long flight. Note that if you were in high blower those levers will need to be re-set if you are shifting the blowers manually. The rogue scenery files often cause out of memory crashes and in my experience these very often happen within the first 30 minutes of the flight. It is perhaps worth pointing out that in normal circumstances FS9 is very stable, which is not what people seem to say about FSX.

My cfg file (System 7) is located in [User Name]/App Data/Roaming/Microsoft/FS9 Hope this helps, I use 'Everything' from www.voidtools.comIts a VERY fast desktop search engine that will find your fs9.cfg, as you start typing it. Regards, Robin

Thank you to all for your suggestions.
Still have not been able to find the fs9.cfg file. It has be there but just cannot see it. Plus am unable to locate anything using the net as my FlightSim computer is not connected to the internet. I kept it on my old Windows 7 computer when I had the new one built last Christmas.
The problem occurred when I accidentally clicked on the FS icon twice. As they were loading I tried to close one of them. Then a strange screen appeared, which I had never seen before, but it disappeared before I had the chance to really see what it said but I recall something about resolution. After it disappeared I received the "Do You Want to Quit FS" message to which I clicked yes. The problem occurred when I started FS again. It looked like it was loading okay and the the "encountered a problem" message appeared and nothing further happened. My ladyfriend had a look at it for me and she found the "weather.DLL" error.
It hasn't been from any scenery adjustments or installations as I hadn't done anything along those lines since I modified Algiers a week or so ago. The day before everything was working perfectly.
If I can't sort it out in the next few days I'll have to take the computer down to the chap who built it and my new one and see if he can resolve the problem.
I miss my daily flying fix!!!!
