Just wondering, is it possible to uninstall and reinstall FS9 without losing the already installed scenery and aircraft files? This may well be a way for me to go to resolve this and get my Sim up and running again.

There is no need to uninstall. Just rename your FS9 folder and install again into a new folder. Then move over what you want from the bad installation to the new one.

Hi Tom Thanks for your quick reply. But if I transfer things over wouldn't I run the risk of transferring whatever has caused the crash to the new folder?

Hi,
Yes. That's why you should do it slowly, and test in FS after each transfer.

Okay, now I understand. Will see how it all goes. And again thank you.

Just as a follow up on this problem. I decided to uninstall and start over again, but when I went into "Programs and Features" section of Control Panel the FS9 program was not there. It seems that when I had that glitch it deleted my whole FS9 which is obviously why the program wouldn't open.
Would be interested in anyone's thoughts as to how this could happen.
At present I'm cleaning up the drive on which I had FS9 so that it will be completely empty and then I'll reinstall. Feel that if I have nothing but FS9 on that drive and no internet connection on that computer there shouldn't be any further problems. Touch wood.
