Well I just tested this, and with gameux.dll enabled the problem is back on my Win7 machine, with internet connection. The TrustedInstaller threw in a good bit of initial CPU load as well but that quickly ended. Had to launch FS9 a second time to get it running, situation same on multiple tries. Disabled gameux again and back in business. I can see how this isn't an option if the standard MS games should stay available and I suppose the latest Win7 update caused this problem. I didn't have it before either.

Hello again, Thanks to you all for your replies. I eventually got "ownership and full control" of gameaux.dll more by good luck than anything else, after watching several utube contributors. They can be frustrating in themselves, because their familiarity tends to make them flash through the steps. But with their sort of coaching, and by adopting a scattergun approach when pressing buttons in the properties\securities window I eventually got to rename the identifier. FS9 now starts with just one click, and ticks over at 12-14%.
Good luck
