Normally I am adverse to recreating paints of aircraft that crashed but I am not sure why but this one seemed to deserve it and an MMA paint for the JBK Viscount had not been done although there was one for the Rick Piper Viscount. If anybody wants it they can PM me and I will provide a copy otherwise it will stay unreleased. For those interested VH-RMQ was the subject of a major accident inquiry following the fatal crash of the aircraft on descent into Port Hedland in WA on a flight from Perth on 31st December 1968. It raised the issue of metal fatigue and in short a wing spar mod done had used bushes that were damaged when they were inserted this allowed the bolts to chafe and the spar to move instead of being rigid over time the chafing and movement weakened the whole structure and the wing came off the aircraft. A lot of lessons were learned about metal fatigue and repairs from this one and it also showed up the poor metal quality of the time, they were softer than modern alloys. Vickers fixed the problems but it meant from then on that operators of the Viscount were faced with regular wing spar replacements, which meant as they aged they became very expensive to keep and thus vanished from the skies over time as they hit spar time replacement. Still a great aeroplane and really trail blazer in turboprop pressurised aircraft, first flew in 1952 and were still operating up here and there until the mid 1980s I think. This is VH-RMQ at Perth Airport using Aaron Seymour's nicely done reworking of Perth International for the Cal Classic Period.

No nor had I seen one excepting for an FS9 Viscount may not have been Rick Pipers. It is really quite nice paint job actually but the fonts were a job and a half finding these ones to use in the paint. There was more than one Viscount used by MMA but this just seemed appropriate. Trouble is MMA were big in Western Australia until the mid 1960's when they were taken over by Ansett, they went for a while as MMA and were then rebranded as Airlines of WA in Ansett colours. The company founded by the same millionaire who sponsored the England to Australia Air Races - I think he made his money making chocolates. Looks a bit like a chocolate box when you think of it.

I also reworked the interior textures and the panel in the VC and it is pretty close to the original now as well. The Viscount panel was described as a bit of a lolly shop by those who used to fly them, with various coloured lights and knobs around the place. No 2D alas. JBK did such great models and a few touches here and there brings them back to life.

I really like the work you have done on the VC.
