The propliners have so much style, unlike all the lookalike tubeliners of today.

Indeed they did, classic lines, good peformance, comfortable and from a passenger perspective actually compared to the tubes - luxurious. And they were good to fly. I always show people these two pics to illustrate what they are missing and where the industry has gone. THEN NOW Says it all. Besides I miss the smell of those old birds, avgas, oil and warm cockpits (apart from the leaks)

Yep! The old prop airliners were in a class of their own. Spent many hours with the DC-6Bs. In these flight Sims I get a chance to fly all of the prop liner that I didn't have a chance to fly years

The old 6B was the plane that started my long acquaintance with Greg Pepper, the master of Autocad. He worked for an architectural firm making virtual models of their buildings as well as technical drawings. Most of the planes on this site were based on his work, along with Manfred Jahn, Jens Kristensen, Dee Waldron, and several others. And you couldn’t meet a nicer guy - we toured the USS Midway museum here together and had so much fun. I still miss him.

The exterior models still hold up today.

If you are running FSX or P3D you might be able to use his external model with the payware VC?
Question: does the payware plane have a cargo version with opening doors?

Tom re does the payware have a cargo version? Yes it does it is an extra purchasable add on package for their DC-6. The other most expensive payware version includes both as standard. I have ended up with both paywares and the Cal Classic pre FSX Native. The one livery I have wanted (BCPA) was only ever done for JBK's version. I flip flop between the lot. The PMDG is only the radar nose version either way, I think JF has both radar and non radar.
I think Cal Classic's (Gregs plus updates and mods) is technically superior to them all. The payware versions have complicated paint kits which explains why there are so few repaints about. I have managed to convert a couple of X-Plane paints to the PMDG one though without any issues.
Interesting that the VC from the first payware version can be grafted into Gregs version. Tempted to have a fiddle with it.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t realize they had done a payware DC-6; I believe that’s what BCPA used.

Probably this needs to go into a different thread. I did see in another thread on the DC-6 that somebody said they had cloned a payware VC (not sure which one) into the Cal Classic model. I gave that a run with the JF version and it did not work for me. The VC in terms of structure is fine, it is actually the original VC for the Cal Classic model unchanged but where the panels and instruments should be is just blank along with the overhead panels. I also did add in the appropriate panel to go with the interior model. So not sure how they did this.

Well managed to put a British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines (BCPA) paint together for the PMDG version but it is the wrong DC-6 unfortunately. BCPA had the round nose 6 with no spinners. Proof of concept anyway, the all aluminium finish is a real pain to get right.
