Tom it has occurred to me that I have not seen or possibly forgot re support from users to fund the Forum. Is there a regular fund drive date? I was curious because I have been getting these popups for a subscription to Pro-Board forums and hence no ads but I have never seen ads here. So would that help or what is needed. I donate to the SimOUthouse fund drive when its on and have no issue with that at all.

Hi, I appreciate your thoughtfulness, that's a nice post to wake up to. This forum is free to me, and thus needs no funding help. If you are seeing no ads, you are probably using an ad blocker in your browser. If you wish to support ProBoards you can always disable it for this site. I do pay for the main web site (but currently only ~$155 per year). I can easily afford that and don't need to bother you folks about that. So we're all good. Thanks,

Hi,
maybe we have to talk about it in the near future.
From what I have read, the data used in MSFS 2020 only for ground scenery around the world is about 2 PB ( 2 Petabyte ) Thats way to much to be hosted on your HDD/SSD. I guess, only a small part of this will be on your drive.
For user modifications of airports and scenery I think, you could rent cloud space with your modifications which would merge with the default scenery via Azure AI. If this would be the case, then I think we had to create a yearly fund or so, but we will see.
It's only a guess from me, but the data shown on the trailers together with the 2 Petabyte hint, actually only allows this conclusion.
Best Regards Wolfgang

Possibly but interesting assessment Wolfgang. I think I am doing well with a 1TB disk my system would not cope with 2PB. I think the thing that concerns me with this is not quality but quantity i.e if you have slow or mediocre internet broadband connections, which I do, I cannot see it working for a lot of folk, no optic fibre and huge bandwith capacity. Because I am a rural resident we get the full service but I know that when the loads go up and is all wireless based systems not cables, the providers throttle it back or basically disconnect you because if I am streaming something for example I probably suck up a large amount of the bandwith capacity at my location. I wait upon this with interest. I can get a new PC but a new internet service alas no.

Some people are saying there will be an offline mode that uses today’s land class system for terrain textures, but we’ll see.

I don't think having to support him is really plausible because proboards is free and always will be (as I know, as well I have my own forum!!) I can agree to help with his website funding could do well but he says he's fine with doing that himself!!
my 2 cents!!
