At beginning of the 20th century, the age of the early automobiles, Smith & Sons retailed one of the first British odometers ("mileometer") and speedometers. They became the dominant supplier of instruments to British motorcar and motorcycle firms. In 1937 a separate aircraft and marine department was created in the parent company and named Smiths Aircraft Instruments. After the war, what is now Smiths Group used Staverton Airport (now Gloucestershire Airport) as a test site for various aircraft. This de Havilland DH104 Dove G-ASOE has been used for instrument testing purposes in the 60's. Bernard

When I was a kid I used to go past the Smiths Factory everyday I went to and fro from school. It was situated in Cricklewood, North London near I presume the old Cricklewood aerodrome which no longer existed by then.

Cheers, Erik

Thanks Erik. In sake of keeping FS9 classic still alive as do many of you, I modestly try to contribute my way as well as possible. Of course, I honestly appreciate every comments, if eventually some are needed at all.
