I have FSX-SE, and am running the calclassic scenery. I have noticed this with other airports, but corrected them with more 'updated' scenery files, but Toronto raised a glaring red flag. Recently, I flew into Toronto (CYYZ) and noticed that the airport was devoid of all airport scenery. auto-gen scenery was there, with the aircraft on the tarmac, but no default airport buildings at all. Just a bunch of Connies, Convairs and Douglas aircraft sitting in a large open area. So, true to my nature, I downloaded a scenery file thinking FSX-SE must be missing some files somewhere, and after installing them, took another look at CYYZ. Still nothing there. On a hunch, I deselected all the calclassic layers and put in WOAI traffic, and returned to Toronto once again.
The airport was there in all its modern glory. Now, obviously there is some exclusion(s) going on with the calclassic landclass file, to remove these buildings, so I got to wondering... If I am going to use 'modern' scenery while flying the propliners (backdating some airports causes conflicts with placement of structures) do I need to use the 'Core' and 'Landclass' files along with the 'Traffic (year)' files, or can I just use the Traffic (year) files just for the traffic? I have not (yet) tested this out, but thought to find out before I do if there will be problems, if these three scenery layers work in conjunction with each other, or not...

Hi,
I’m not sure what might be causing that, but probably an errant file in the Core?
If you want to use modern scenery do not use any classic scenery at all. None is required for the AI traffic, only the AI Traffic scenery layers themselves. However, you will need to be sure that your modern scenery accommodates the old airlines and aircraft as you want them to.

Okay, gotcha. I did a 'test' and just deselected the landclass layer and all scenery remained in place. I did not know what the 'Core' layer did, but if it has no impact on AI traffic, I will deselect that too. All the airport scenery successfully shows AI 1959 traffic at the gates, they just 'push back' as modern traffic does, which is fine with me. If a gate accommodates a 737-800, it should easily accommodate a Connie, lol... I know calclassic scenery is written for FS9, and that FSX is a different beast, is why I pondered and puzzled and fuzzled over this issue. I just like having the old iron around when I fly...

Hi,
Yep, shouldn't be a problem. At some addon airports the classic planes will park in overflow parking, since the terminal spots have no old airline codes.
