The airship U.S.S. Shenandoah was the first American built rigid airship. The ship made one of its most impressive demonstrations in 1924, when it made a difficult 19-day journey across the United States from Lakehurst to San Diego, via Forth Worth, and then traveled up the west coast to Seattle and back to San Diego, before returning to Lakehurst via Fort Worth. Shenandoah logged 235 flight hours on its headline-making journey across the country, and captured the enthusiasm of both the American public and also leaders in the field of aviation around the world. On September 3, 1925, on its 57th flight, Shenandoah was caught in a storm over Ohio and crashed. USS Shenandoah ready for taking off at Lakehurst ... flying over Forth Worth Meacham Airport ... approaching Helium plant at Forth Worth ... flying over the famous Hotel del Coronado at San Diego ... BTW, when it opened in 1888, it was the single largest resort hotel in the world and still the second largest wooden structure in the United States after the Tillamook Air Museum. and landing at North Island NAS ... passing the impressive Mount Rainier on the way to Seattle ... and finally reaching Camp Lewis, today in neighbourhood of McChord AFB. Nice shots. Many don't realize the Hotel Del (as locals call it) was used as the location for the movie "Some Like it Hot".

Very nice. That must have been quite the flight to be on.

What magnificent scenery package is that? Some yet undiscovered Golden Wings files?

Lovely pics. Try as I might, just cannot get the hang of piloting an airship in FS9.

Lovely pics. Try as I might, just cannot get the hang of piloting an airship in FS9. Me neither! So I let them fly as AI. What magnificent scenery package is that? Some yet undiscovered Golden Wings files? Lakehurst is part of Bill Lyons' "Graf Zeppelin" package, whereas Forth Worth Meacham Airport is a standalone scenery from TOH Archive. The rest is purely own creation. Bernard

After lots of activity, including some brilliant screen shots, Bernard's account has been deleted. This has happened before and our private historian did come back afterwards. I do hope that will happen again this time. Waiting for your reappearance, Bernard!
All the best, Erik

I'm not convinced that this here would be the right place for vintage sim.

Good to see you here again, Bernard! The core of CC is Classic sim obviously, but there is plenty of interest for vintage plus much in common for the two eras. I suppose we are going rather off-topic here, but since it is the chat forum that hopefully isn't a problem.
Two things are on my wish list right now in this respect: you (and everyone else) staying aboard, and me finishing a number of private projects so I can make some fltsim contributions again, like perhaps sharing a bit of vintage scenery and/or traffic.
For now, "Don't Panic and Carry On" ;-)

Hi all,
I think it's fine to post vintage topics here; that's OK with me. However, if there is a more appropriate forum I'd be glad to know about that.
