note ^ he means fs9.1
but all flightsims are simulations not games...games are levels and objectives, simulation is just watching or interacting with the thing thats being simulated

I have objectives with Flight Simulator - to land on the runway and not to run out of fuel before I get there!

John Any landing you walk away from is a good landing... so if I run out of fuel, yet make a successful deadstick landing on the runway (or golf course or taxiway if I am Harrison Ford ), then it's still a good landing.

The other day, I heard (from a real life pilot): "if the engine quits, look for something flat, soft and cheap to land on" Erik

As mentioned in a previous thread, I had purchased a copy of FS2020 from Steam but ending up getting a refund because I was experiencing problems with assigning all the Control inputs for my Controllers.
Since then I had found some usefull information on the CH Controllers website on procedures to input all this. So I did another purchase of FS2020 and have been quite successful in getting the sim going. I must say I am happy with the sim so far, but I still have a lot of things to learn and adjust to at my age (78). There are so many things different then my FSX Steam.

Hi Herman,
It helps that the sim now supports the CH products as of their last updates. I found an online tutorial as well as to how to make the hat switch work, at least while you're in the cockpit. It's a great help and frees up a hand. It only works for the internal views. You may be able to program it for external views, but then again, if you could, it would only work in the external mode. Go to cockpit views in your control settings for your yoke and scroll down to "Look left" Use the search function and then move the hat controller to the left so that it's assigned. Repeat that same procedure for "Look Up" (move the hat switch up to assign), "Look Right" (hat switch to the right) and "Look Down" (hat switch down). It seems to work as smoothly as in FS2004 and FSX. It also gives you an option to center the default view with any key you wish to assign to it. I use the red button immediately in front of the hat switch for this. Saves time in trying to recenter the view with the hat switch.
Good luck and enjoy the sim. Each sim update seems to help.
Regards, Phil

I am using nowdays, almost all simulator that exist. I bought the premium version of MSFS I bought XP11 I use also DCS and IL2NG and i bought (but ask for a refound), the last version of academic P3D. For me, the simulator that i prefer, is XP11, (with Vulkan), it's maybe the better one, (but is not perfect, but get close) For MSFS, i don't know, got some really nice features, but is not yet finished, for my taste, so i not use a lot (rendering capabilites and lighiting, are great, aircrafts visuals, are greats, but something is not yet available (but it will be) Prepar3D for me i stop on 4.5 version, the 5.0 for me, is not interesting I use often also the old FS91 I think, MSFS & XP, are the best candidat in the next years, for civilian flight home simulators... Prepar3D, i think, is not a good choice in 2020. V5 is really bad, maybe could be a nice 4.6; but is not a 5.x maybe in 5.2 5.3 5.4 LM will fix and add enough things to make it, more interesting, but for the moment... As a "classical" (not 100% depend internet, FS), i think XP11, is the best option in 2020. The freeware community, grows and grows, and the tools are mature, and the freeware librarys are huges and most of the freeware scenerys and aircraft i tested, got an incredible, quality. And in Vulkan, really run smooth in my old system. But, i not really "choose", between my simulators, i use all... someones more than others. DCS is really a great simulator also, but is mostly for combat, and is close, and geographically limited Same thing, for IL2NG Deadstick simulator, i not know i will be released one day.

Hello Phil;
Just wanted to let you know that your recommendations regarding the Hat Switch control assignments worked well.
Now if I could only do the same for the Exterior Views. I have tried the same assignments but they just don't seem to work the same way in terms that there is no panning, but just a rapid 180 degs. rotation.
Cheers; Herman. Merry Christmas\Happy Holidays

Hello Herman,
I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the hat switch working in the cockpit mode. I too have noticed the problem with trying to pan in the external views as well. It's the mouse for now I guess. Each update seems to bring it a little closer to being what many of us were hoping for, so I'm not going to worry about it (too much!) for now.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you as well.
Regards, Phil
