If you look at the Swiss DC-3s, they have no rubber deicing boots. The wings, horizontal tail, and vertical tail have bare metal. This is because Swiss had converted them to hot air deicing. This is the first example of a DC-3 using hot air deicing that I have come across.
Why they never did this to the DC-4s, I don't know.
