Tpday in Swiss "20 minutes": 'Unfortunatly a Frau Merkel is missing in the Swiss gouvernment' Not surprising with more than 5.000 infected persons and up to 100 deaths daily. For a population which is 10 times smaller than Germany! Maybe a Mister Xi Jinping would be an option too. Bernard

Here in the US we just flew past 3,000 deaths per day. Stay safe out there.

I saw her on the news the other day. Here in the USA we have twice the number of deaths from the Titanic everyday, and silence from the old leadership on the subject of Coronavirus. More deaths per day than on 9/11. I saw two days ago that the USA has had more deaths from Coronavirus than we had from all combat related deaths during WW2. It is particularly bad here in Arizona, where about one in four people do not even believe that Covid even exists. The same group that is being told in hospitals where they lay dying that they have tested positive for Covid and refuse to even believe it. They get hostile to the health care workers, doctors and nurses, and have threatened them with violence and guns. I see them at the grocery stores, refusing to wear masks. I consider them like those blue ghosts in Pac Man, you have no control over them except to avoid them at all costs and consider them infected and dangerous. The only time I leave this house is to shop for food, or rarely, to a doctor appointment. Other than that, its me, the dogs, and flight sim.
My doctor said if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes, you are at prime risk of death. If you have liver, spleen, kidney or heart issues you too have a quadruple risk of death. Over the summer scientists determined that Covid is actually a vascular disease more than just a lung breathing disease. It causes strokes and other vascular issues.
Here is an interesting map by Dartmouth College showing the USA where the over 65 with two or more chronic conditions exist. That's the highest risk category of death from Covid. Interesting to note that the highest numbers of people at risk live in "red states" and these are the very people that are refusing to take precautionary measures against the disease. According to this map, the state of West Virginia appears to be the worst off.

Here's hoping all of us here manage to get through this sad period.
Death statistics are not easy to compare as we all seem to be using different measures. Here in the UK we normally see, pre-covid, about 600,000+ deaths a year, say 9 to 10,000 per million population, and it will probably be another year or so before we see reliable statistics to show how that figure has actually been affected by covid, not only from covid directly but from delayed or lack of treatment for other conditions.

I'm not going to get involved in detail because it would take me all day to write what I think.
But I hope that all the great people on this forum are able to stay safe through these hard times and are able to enjoy the Christmas period even if not in the usual way. One day it will just be a piece of history of our lifetimes we can look back on.
For myself, for health reasons I am classed as "extremely vulnerable" and like many, I generally only leave the house for exercise - fortunately we have plenty of fields where we are. Flight Simulator, for the second time in my life, has been there to keep me sane!
Take care everybody,
John

If only the politicians would quit trying to score points off of each other and actually pull together. We do not live in kind times.

Actually, around here in the middle of Georgia, it isn't covid that is going to kill you -- It's all the speeders and red-light runners who feel they are "entitled" to disregard any safety since they were inconvenienced by covid. "Stay safe"? Not if you get in THEIR way! Kurt
