I'm wondering as to why if you start off with the default Seattle setting in FS9 the aircraft is sitting some distance from the runway end on the grass. I am guessing that that is the point of the original default runway. But when I check the modified scenery in AFCAD it shows the starting point as the beginning of the runway. I have the CalClassic Seattle scenery installed.
Is that just the way it is with that particular airport or can this anomaly be rectified?
Thanks John

You are right in that out there in the grass is the end of the original default runway. I'm not savvy enough to explain what happens in the "translation" but there is an easy fix.
First load the default flight. The plane will be out in the grass. Next enter slew mode (y) and move the plane up to the end of the CalClassic runway. Get out of slew mode and go to "save flight" in the flights menu. Now you need to hit "save as default flight". From then on, when you load default flight, you'll be in the proper location.

Perhaps not the complete solution. I fixed the start point as Mike describes and either my default flight or the create a flight option always takes me to the right spot. But if I'm at another airport and then decide to reposition to Seattle and chose active runway I end up on the grass. But if I specify 16L/34R it puts me at the start point.
It just doesn't seem to recognise the active runway.

Thank you for your quick replies. It isn't a big issue but I was curious as to why it was that way. Do not often use the default Seattle option so am happy to leave things as they are.

By modifying FS9.cfg, your FS will always start with the same saved flight. Just replace "SITUATION" line by something like this: "SITUATION=C:\Flight Simulator 9/Flights/other/Kloten". Just make sure that the path of the saved flight is correct.

And if it is not correct, FS9 will crash. But then just change the line to the correct path, or to SITUATION= and FS9 will start up with the default flight.

Tom,
Just wondering why "go to airport" offers me 16L/34R whereas the afcad in Pacific Northwest 1960 has it as 16/34?
It's well above CalClassic Core in the library but I notice that folder has another KSEA afcad which still has the default runways and their numbering. Sorry I've forgotten the purpose of the core files.

Sorted I think. In AF2_KSEA_60 the runway is 16/34 but the start points were 16L/34R. Both now 16/34.

Hi,
There may be a problem with your PNW installation. The AF2_KSEA_60.BGL file in the Pacific Northwest 1960/scenery folder should be an exclusion BGL file (1KB in size), not an actual AFCAD file. The KSEA airport is now defined by the KSEA_ADE9_60.bgl file.

Ha! That must be because I'm using an obsolete 2007 PNW! Maybe John's is the same? It has a separate set of KSEA exclusions as well.
It actually works now, no grass landings at the airport reference points, but I will try the updated ADE version tomorrow.
Thanks Tom

Ah, that may explain it indeed. There may have been an issue with runway numbering in that previous version.

Again, thank you to everyone for your comments and suggestions. I really only ever click the Seattle button at the start up screen if I want to have a look at a aircraft repaint that I've uploaded. Any other time if I'm flying from Seattle I do the full start up from the terminal.

Tom's updated PNW 60 now installed and very nice too. Should have installed this long ago. The old KSEA might still have a use however for those who want something more like the mid-50's.

Bill Thanks for the tip, I found the old PNW version of 2007 with Wayback Machine. It really fits perfectly with 1957 traffic. Bernard
