Making an NDB Approach with Procedure Turn

Hi,

I saw this video of an NDB approach and thought it was very clear. He gives you lots of good tips on a typical approach. Most of what he describes also applies to VOR approaches with procedure turns. While he is in a jet with a glass cockpit, the controls and displays are easily translated to our classic era gauges. He also has other videos, for example how to deal with a round gauge ADF without a magnetic heading card (i.e. the ring rotates only using manual control), like that used in the default Cessna.

Thanks, but all of that automation takes much of the challenge out of it. Hand-flying procedure turns using steam-gauges and sweep-second hand clocks are much more fun!

I agree. But I thought he described the actual flying of the approach quite well (whether done through automation or manually) and had some handy tips.
