All, This is a project that was started in the spring of 2020 before the world went sideways (as well as my ability to do anything with FS). Now after some time, and with the gracious permission of the original author, Tom's excessive knowledge of xml, and Ken's extensive testing (thank you, Ken), we can now have the FSX version of the gauge in FS9! This is a Beta release and we're asking for folks who would be willing to try it out before we upload to the major websites. Gauge comes with KMZ files for Google Earth, maps in PDF format, and an extensive manual. Here is the FSX version we started with: And here is the FS9 version in JBK's DC-4: The GPS will give you a "fix" named "DF-Sta" representing the station you are trying to DF. This is to mimic the navigator plotting the course on the map prior to the flight, so it's not really meant to be used in flight unless you're trying to mimic "updating" the plot by the navigator. If you wish to test it use the link below. Regards! Jorge Miami, FL PS: When this project is complete with testing we can concentrate on LORAN!

It basically simulates powerful ground based DF stations of the 30s and 40s and similar Ocean Station ships.

I tried to access a download for the Ambient Visibility Gauge but get a "File Cannot Be Accessed" error message. Any ideas gratefully accepted and thanks in advance.

Try a different browser, or right click and choose Save File?

Tried Firefox and Chrome, both browsers using left-click direct download and right click save as. No joy.

I am having no problems on Firefox. If the manual is still in the zip file try extracting it first. I have known that kind of thing make a difference. You might also try closing down your anti--virus, and script-blocking add-ons in Firefox, which can block things you don't want blocked.

Chris, Try extracting everything to the desktop. Try the link from the PDF after opening it from the desktop after it's unzipped. I have not been able to get the thing to work from within the zip either, but after extracting everything to a working place (i.e. desktop) it worked fine. At least now I know it wasn't just me! Thanks Gents but I had actually tried all of the above advice before posting. Just one of those odd Internet things I guess.

So this looks super cool and I have downloaded it to install into my prop planes. A few questions though : 1. I already have the original ocean station package. Is this a little different? Does it overwrite that one? Or should I remove the other one? 2. Reading the instructions, I dont get the idea of planning before hand using it. So lets say I plan to fly from Shanwick to Gander via OS Johnny and Charlie (not sure of thats accurate or correct but for sake of the question.) What if I just use Simbrief or Skyvector etc to plan to the locations and get a track, use my bubble sextant (zig zagging as usual lol) and then get a bearing using the NDBs? Getting a outbound bearing from Shanwick, getting a fix with the sextant in between their and Johnny, then picking up its signal with the ADF for a direct line etc? What am I missing using the DF thingy? 3. Do I need to re-read the manual?
