Recently I checked some exotic airports with 1955 traffic and visited Bata EGBT in former Spanish Equatorial Guinea. With the said traffic this airport is connected with the capital Malabo by daily flights of a DC-3 Iberia. I was rather shocked to see the steep hills just behind the airport and did a comparaison with Google Earth. No comment! On an German speaking forum I'm recommanded to use FSGlobal 2008/2010. It really would be a tremendous improvment. And probably not just there. But I don't know how much this would affect some classic airports. As we know, Ultimate Terrain f.i. isn't compatible with some sceneries like Antwerpen or Hamburg. Does anyone have experience with this addon? Thanks for any advice. Bernard

Hi Bernard, FSGlobal 2010 plus Ground Environment Pro, both FS2004. Haven't found any problem with airports although some (and lakes) will still sit on a plateau depending on the surrounding elevations but certainly a lot better than default. Bill

Thanks Bill, it looks like as it should be! How MS could do such a kludge ...? Anyway, I already ordered the package.

Meanwhile I got an other tip: the 70m Global Terrain Mesh of Stephen Rothlisberger. These are older files, but work quite well, at least at the mentioned place. I used those meshs already before, but in some areas I got steeply sloping rocks. Bernard

Hello,
I'm interested in trying FSGlobal 2010 but don't see it being available anymore. Does anyone know whether it can still be found?
Thanks, Kurt

My pleasure. It is always worth looking at. Some time ago I got the A2A/Shockwave Wings of Power collection of WW2 bombers. The B-17s are the same as the ones they are still selling. Why they aren't still selling the rest is beyond me, because they stand up pretty well.

Good Morning,
I'm mulling over the price of FS Global 2010 (the UK link doesn't ship to the US). Bill mentioned, above that he uses both FS Global 2010 and Ground Environment Pro. What are the differences in these? In other words, what does each one do such that both are used to get good improvements?
Thank you, Kurt

There used to be FreeMeshX which did the same thing but was a free download (albeit a very large download). Its not that long ago that I downloaded it but all the links I can find now go to a dead page on what looks like an Indonesian gambling site! I'm sure that isn't where mine came from, so maybe some more diligant seaching would find the right page.
Those are supposedly FSX/P3D and the Stephen Rothlisberger one FS2000/2002/2004 although I thought FS2004/FSX mesh was interchangeable.

Kurt, FS Global is a high quality mesh which covers the whole world, though there are some odd effects in the Arctic. The other one I do not have but I assume provides textures. I use Silver Wings for those. If you keep looking I think you may well find FSG 2010 at a more reasonable price. I am tolerably certain that it is the best mesh there is for FS9 and I have been very happy with it, Ken

Good Morning,
I think I'm starting to figure this out... the "mesh" is sort of like the chicken wire frame, and then the "textures" go over the top of the frame? So we actually see the textures, but the mesh is what holds the textures in the right shape?
I'll look for both FSG 2010 and FreeMeshX, with the goal of getting to FSG. I can be patient and wait until someone is offering at a reasonable price (considering it is not the "latest").
Thanks, Best regards, Kurt

Yes, mesh is the shape and textures are the visual images.

Kurt, Ground Environment Pro is still available from Flight 1 as a download for $50, if you feel like dealing with Flight 1. I have just picked up a disc on UK E-Bay for £8, issued in 2010, though I am not sure it is the latest version. However, for that money it has to be worth a try, Best wishes, Ken
