If I may be so humble. I can't help but recommend this excellent tutorial provided by Tom and FSAviator. It describes the creation, operation, and repair of 2D Cockpit Views, like the one you're going to make for your 747. This will make your panel even more effective for the user base. Good luck on the 747 Classic!

Great stuff, Chris. I’ve always wondered how clouds were displayed. And yes I agree, overcast in FS2002 was SO much better! Perhaps they were worried about frame rates, not sure. A shame it wasn’t an option to display the overcast in that way.
