Tom,
That's pretty much the method I originally tried to use with the Platinum Wings objects. I found I needed to get to other aspects of the project before going back to the objects since I wasn't getting anywhere with MCX. I decided to try converting some of the FSX items over to FS9 using MCX since the program kept giving the legacy objects from the FS9 libraries new guids. It pretty much meant the placement files were useless unless you changed the guids there as well.
The conversion and creation of the objects from FSX to FS9 went fine, as did the creation of the new libraries with the new mdl objects. The placements, however, were horrendous. I guess it's because of the "flat earth" concept of FS9 versus the "round earth" concept that FSX uses. Same reason the runways and airport scenery doesn't always match up as well, I guess.
I'll look at some of the files I have so far and see about following what you said with MCX for the rest when I get around to them. Like I said, I remember MCX was renaming the guids for the remaining buildings when I processed the FS9 files, which is one of the reasons I went with the FSX ones since the textures -- even after converting -- were a lot better in many cases.
I'll try the method you suggested about removing the ones you don't want from the library and saving to see if the newer release of MCX keeps the default guids. It will definitely make life a WHOLE lot easier!
Thanks for the tip!

Yes, I would stay with FSX for FSX and FS9 for FS9, much easier. I was only talking FS9.

Glad to hear you enjoy Golden Wings! I have already given the advice at other sites to delete all AP9xxxxx.bgl files in the Scenery folders (Afri, Asia, Aust and so on) as Jorge also recommends in his said FSX thread. But for no obvious reasons this has been ridiculous therebeen in a well known flightsim site. There are supposed know-it-alls everywhere! Bernard Is that all I need to do for major airport removals? Delete AP9xxxxx.bgl files? No catch?

At least it works in my system, and certainly it should do it in yours too. Backup one of your scenery folder and just try it. If Willbur and Oliver Wright hadn't tried their project, we wouldn't be writing about aviation today either!

Thanks Tom. As suggested I deleted the two files and got the expected results too. In my case Republic Airport isn't representative as the GW3 scenery excludes the default buildings anyway. Therefore I chose Albany Intl, where default buildings are eleminated too, excepted the tower and the navigation objects. As there I replaced the default Afcad by a simple grass runway, I could add an exclusion rectangle with AFX tool.
Meanwhile I checked the other areas und could deactivate following files:
Namw OB9NAMW1 OB9NAMW2
Namc OB9NAMC7 OB9NAMC8
Eurw OB9EURW1 - Eiffel Tower in Paris should be reinstalled manually - London, Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam are all ok
Eure OB9EURE0 - Red Square in Moscow should be reinstalled manually
Aust OB9AUS0 - Sydney Opera wasn't there anyway and Harbour Bridge should be reinstalled manually
Asia There are too much landmark objects which finally will be missed (Tokyo, Bejing, Taj Mahal)
Afri OB9AFRI0 - the Pyramides of Cairo should be reinstalled manually
Same OBSAME0 - the Christ Redentor statue on Corcovado isn't affected!
