Here are the designations of US Army and US Air Force transport aircraft. The C for Cargo designation for Army transport aircraft was originally introduced in May of 1924 There were two series of C-planes, one beginning in 1924 and ending in 1962, and another one beginning in 1962 and continuing to the present day. home.att.net/~jbaugher3/cdesig.htmlBest and Warm Regards Adrian Wainer

Maybe the Brazilians confiscated or impounded the thing, and then gave it to us. From what I understand, Brazil was rather important to the Allied war effort, especially in ASW patrols of the South Atlantic and as a staging ground for cargo flights to Africa.

Hi,
the C-44 isn't bad for an USAAF aircraft, either.
I assume the Junkers was owned by the Condor airline, a Lufthansa subsidary.
Best regards, Volker
