Let's try another thing: How about 'slewing' the subj. aircraft (what type are we talking about) up in the air a couple of 1000's of feet.
To do so: Press 'y' on the keyboard and then 'F4' (upper row left). You will be sky rocketing into the blue!!
Press 'y' again and you will be on your own. Retract gear if applicable and adjust power settings to normal cruise. See if she will fly at all . Try to land in 'flyable' condition, and try to take-off again.
You can slew as high as you like; you'll have some altitude to spare to do some troubleshooting like trim, auto pilot on/off, power settings, flaps, etc..
